AG1 Ships Gummies and Canned Drinks to Unlock 5x the Addressable Market Beyond Powder

Form-factor expansion lets a supplement brand sell the same formula to customers who won't scoop powder.

AG1 launched gummies, canned ready-to-drink beverages, and an energy powder variant in 2024, multiplying the ways customers can buy its greens formula, according to Glossy. CEO Kat Cole told the publication that new formats are central to the brand's plan to expand its customer base, with "several launches per year" and "much more to come." The move addresses a documented constraint: many potential buyers want the nutrition profile but refuse to mix powder every morning.

The brand kept the core formula—seventy-five vitamins, minerals, and whole-food ingredients—and repackaged it into formats that fit different routines. Gummies travel, cans open on a desk, energy powder delivers a caffeinated variant. Each format enters a different purchase context: the gummy buyer shops the vitamin aisle at Whole Foods, the RTD customer grabs a can at a bodega, the energy powder user compares it to pre-workout on Amazon. Distribution follows format. According to Glossy, AG1 is pursuing "wider distribution" alongside the new SKUs, meaning the brand can now occupy shelf space it could not access with powder alone.

The mechanism is form-factor arbitrage. A supplement brand that sells only powder competes in one category, trains customers on one ritual, and battles one set of substitutes. Add three formats and the brand competes in four categories simultaneously, each with different price anchors, purchase triggers, and retail dynamics. The customer who will not blend a shake at 6 a.m. will chew a gummy on the subway or crack a can at her desk. Same margin structure, different entry point. Cole's statement about "several launches per year" signals a systematic build: the brand is not testing formats, it is colonizing adjacent categories with the same ingredient story.

The steal works for any physical product with a loyal base and a format that excludes buyers. Start with the objection: identify the friction that keeps a segment from buying. For a powder supplement sold by a small brand, the objection might be "I don't want to clean a blender" or "I travel three weeks a month." Map that objection to a format: single-serve stick packs for travel, capsules for the blender-averse, RTD for the desk worker. Source the new format from a co-packer who already runs the category—gummy manufacturers, stick-pack fillers, beverage co-packers all offer low-MOQ runs for established formulas. List the new SKU in the channel where that format naturally lives: stick packs on Amazon Subscribe & Save, RTD in convenience distributors like KeHE, capsules in vitamin specialty retail. Each format requires one product page, one set of render images, and one distribution test. A $8,000 first run of stick packs or capsules proves whether the format converts without re-engineering the core product. The brand that sells protein powder can sell protein bars, RTD shakes, and baking mixes. The brand that sells hot sauce can sell dry rubs, marinade concentrate, and seasoning salt. Every format is a new keyword, a new retail door, and a new reason to repost the same ingredient story.

AG1's play is not about innovation; it is about occupying every surface where the customer already shops. A small brand runs the same expansion by asking which format removes the most friction for the next 500 customers, then shipping that format into the channel that already sells it.

The takeaway
Repackage your core formula into the formats your next customers already buy, then place each format in the channel that sells it.

Your next customer won't visit your website. Their AI will.
AI assistants have quietly taken over the first step of buying — they answer from catalogs they can read and shortlist whoever can actually ship. Two questions now decide whether you exist to that buyer: can a machine read your catalog, and can you fulfill the order. Most brands fail one or both and never find out why the orders went elsewhere. The winners of this shift aren't the loudest. They're the most readable. Build for the machine that's about to do the shopping.

Built by the craft floor — apparel, media, packaging, and secure print.
This trade runs on hands, not desks. Imprint manufacturing & Komori Press · Canon high-speed secure-media operations is a craft floor — genuine Six Sigma discipline applied to ink, thread, foil, and registration, where a hundredth of an inch is the difference between a brand that reads serious and one that reads cheap. POPS4 is built by exactly those operators: independent, boots-on-the-ground engineers who carry their own book, read a client in microseconds, and put their name on every run. Beyond our own Virginia Beach floor, we work with a vetted network of craft manufacturers across the US — each meeting the highest excellence in QC standards in the industry, each a specialist in its own discipline — so apparel, hard-goods imprinting, media manufacturing, packaging, and secure printing all go to the bench built for them, coordinated from one accountable hub. Short-run from twenty-five units, volume to five hundred thousand. Two hundred authorized national brands, seventy thousand SKUs with virtual proofing on every one. Art archived for instant reorders.
