DoorDash announced three new advertising capabilities for CPG brands: Interest Targeting, Retailer Targeting, and Category Share Insights, according to the company's January 2025 statement. The move takes the platform beyond its original model—showing ads only to users who had already ordered a category—and into prospecting territory where a brand can reach new buyers based on browsing signals and retailer preference.
Interest Targeting uses in-app behavior: search terms, browsed categories, items added to lists. A sparkling-water brand can now target users who search "beverages" or browse the soda aisle, even if they have never ordered sparkling water. Retailer Targeting lets a brand isolate shoppers of a specific chain—Albertsons, Safeway, or a regional grocer—so a local salsa maker can spend only on customers who shop the store that stocks them. Category Share Insights shows a brand its share of impressions and purchases within a category, reported weekly, so a marketer knows if competitors are outspending them on visibility.
The mechanism is attention arbitrage at the retailer level. Most CPG digital buys live on Meta or Google, where the audience is general and the retailer context is absent. DoorDash sits between intent and checkout: the user has opened the app to buy groceries, chosen a store, and is one scroll from adding to cart. A targeted ad in that environment carries purchase intent the open web cannot match. The interest and retailer layers let a brand spend only on the segment likeliest to convert in the next ten minutes, not the next ten days.
The steal for a small physical-goods brand: identify one regional grocer or convenience chain that already stocks your product and that appears on DoorDash. Open a DoorDash Ads account. Set a $500 test budget. Build one Retailer Targeting campaign: your SKU, that single chain, a ten-mile radius around stores with your product on shelf. Write ad copy that names the retailer and your product attribute—"Organic cashew butter at Sprouts, aisle 12." Run it for two weeks. Track orders by SKU through the retailer or your distributor. If cost per incremental order is under your wholesale margin, scale the radius and add a second retailer. If you do not have DoorDash placement yet, use Interest Targeting instead: pick the closest behavioral signal—"nut butter," "keto snacks"—and run a sponsored-product ad that drives to your top retailer. The platform works only if the product is already available for same-day delivery on DoorDash; this is not awareness media, it is last-mile conversion.
For the solo brand, this flips the discovery model. Traditional retail advertising assumed a customer would see your package in-store, compare, and decide. DoorDash Ads assumes the customer never walks an aisle. You pay to be the result when they type a need into a search bar at 8 p.m. The interest layer is the tell: DoorDash is no longer just a logistics layer, it is building an intent graph from search and browse data, the same asset that made Google a republic. The difference is purchase happens in the same session.
The next move is to map every retailer that carries your product and appears on DoorDash, then allocate a test line to each. Track which retailer audience converts cheapest. That becomes your lead channel for new-market entry: when you pitch a buyer in a new city, you can show them DoorDash conversion data from their own chain in another region. The ad platform becomes your proof of velocity, not just your acquisition tool.
The takeaway
DoorDash Ads now lets CPG brands target by shopper interest and retailer, not just purchase history—turn it into proof of velocity.

Your next customer won't visit your website. Their AI will.
AI assistants have quietly taken over the first step of buying — they answer from catalogs they can read and shortlist whoever can actually ship. Two questions now decide whether you exist to that buyer: can a machine read your catalog, and can you fulfill the order. Most brands fail one or both and never find out why the orders went elsewhere. The winners of this shift aren't the loudest. They're the most readable. Build for the machine that's about to do the shopping.

This trade runs on hands, not desks. Imprint manufacturing & Komori Press · Canon high-speed secure-media operations is a craft floor — genuine Six Sigma discipline applied to ink, thread, foil, and registration, where a hundredth of an inch is the difference between a brand that reads serious and one that reads cheap. POPS4 is built by exactly those operators: independent, boots-on-the-ground engineers who carry their own book, read a client in microseconds, and put their name on every run. Beyond our own Virginia Beach floor, we work with a vetted network of craft manufacturers across the US — each meeting the highest excellence in QC standards in the industry, each a specialist in its own discipline — so apparel, hard-goods imprinting, media manufacturing, packaging, and secure printing all go to the bench built for them, coordinated from one accountable hub.
