MagBak, Neon Growth, and Marpipe Launch First Enhanced Image Ads on Google Shopping

Three partners exploit a new Google Shopping format before competitors learn it exists.

MagBak, Neon Growth, and Marpipe launched what they describe as the first enhanced image ads on Google Shopping listings in August 2026, according to TMCnet. The three partners—a phone accessory brand, a performance agency, and a creative testing platform—combined resources to exploit a format that most physical-product sellers do not yet know is live.

The enhanced image ad format layers lifestyle imagery, product highlights, and real-time customer proof directly into the standard Google Shopping tile. Instead of a single product shot on white background, the ad unit cycles through multiple images—product in use, feature callouts, and social validation—while the shopper hovers. Google appears to have quietly opened the format to select advertisers in early 2026, with no public documentation or broad rollout announcement.

The mechanism works because Google Shopping has become a comparison engine where every listing looks identical: product name, price, star rating, white-background image. The shopper scans dozens of nearly interchangeable tiles. The brand that breaks the visual pattern—by showing the product in context, in the shopper's hand, solving a visible problem—earns the click before the shopper compares price. The enhanced format gives the first movers a structural advantage: their tile is the only one that moves, the only one that tells a story, the only one that does not require the shopper to click through to learn what the product does.

MagBak manufactures magnetic phone mounts and cases. Neon Growth is a paid-media agency that has run Google Shopping campaigns for physical-product brands since 2018. Marpipe builds creative testing software that generates and scores ad variations at scale. The three partners combined technical access, creative production speed, and a brand willing to test a new format before it saturates.

The steal for a small brand is straightforward. First, request access to enhanced image ads through your Google Ads account representative or via the Google Merchant Center help forum. If you do not have a rep, post a public request in the Google Ads Community forum under Shopping Ads. Google has historically granted early format access to advertisers who ask directly and demonstrate creative readiness. Second, prepare three images that work as a sequence: product in context, close-up of the key feature, and a customer using it with visible benefit. Shoot these on an iPhone in natural light. No studio required. The images must meet Google's Shopping ad specs: square aspect ratio, under 16MB, product占s at least 75% of the frame. Third, upload the image set as a supplemental feed in Merchant Center, using the additional_image_link attribute. Tag the images with sequential identifiers—image_01, image_02, image_03—so the ad platform knows the order. Fourth, create a new Shopping campaign in Google Ads, select the product group that uses the enhanced images, and set the bid 20-30% higher than your standard Shopping bid. You are paying for format scarcity. Fifth, let the campaign run for seven days, then compare click-through rate and conversion rate against your baseline Shopping campaigns. If CTR lifts by more than 15% and conversion rate holds or improves, shift 50% of your Shopping budget to the enhanced format.

The cost line for a solo founder is minimal. Image production: $0 if you shoot in-house, $200-$400 if you hire a local product photographer for a half-day session. Feed setup: $0 if you do it yourself in Merchant Center, $300-$600 if you pay a freelance Google Shopping specialist on Upwork to configure the supplemental feed and test the upload. Incremental ad spend: depends on your current Shopping budget, but expect to add 20-30% to capture the format advantage before competitors arrive.

The broader pattern is format arbitrage. Every new ad unit—whether on Google, Meta, TikTok, or Amazon—delivers outsized results for the first 90-180 days, then decays as adoption spreads and the visual novelty disappears. The brands that win are those who monitor platform release notes, request beta access aggressively, and ship creative fast enough to claim the window. MagBak did not wait for a case study or a how-to guide. They saw the format, built the images, and ran the test while the tile still stood out. That is the move.

The takeaway
Request enhanced image ad access in Google Merchant Center and ship a three-image sequence before the format saturates.

Your next customer won't visit your website. Their AI will.
AI assistants have quietly taken over the first step of buying — they answer from catalogs they can read and shortlist whoever can actually ship. Two questions now decide whether you exist to that buyer: can a machine read your catalog, and can you fulfill the order. Most brands fail one or both and never find out why the orders went elsewhere. The winners of this shift aren't the loudest. They're the most readable. Build for the machine that's about to do the shopping.

Built by the craft floor — apparel, media, packaging, and secure print.
This trade runs on hands, not desks. Imprint manufacturing & Komori Press · Canon high-speed secure-media operations is a craft floor — genuine Six Sigma discipline applied to ink, thread, foil, and registration, where a hundredth of an inch is the difference between a brand that reads serious and one that reads cheap. POPS4 is built by exactly those operators: independent, boots-on-the-ground engineers who carry their own book, read a client in microseconds, and put their name on every run. Beyond our own Virginia Beach floor, we work with a vetted network of craft manufacturers across the US — each meeting the highest excellence in QC standards in the industry, each a specialist in its own discipline — so apparel, hard-goods imprinting, media manufacturing, packaging, and secure printing all go to the bench built for them, coordinated from one accountable hub.
