Why Banks Are Losing the Room

The fee story and the rate story are well covered. The vendor estate banks and their suppliers gorged on in the eighties and nineties is still running, largely unexamined, and it is the part that will not survive scrutiny.

The vendor estate banks and suppliers built in the eighties and nineties is still running on original agreements: accountability that cannot be outsourced, regulators conceding banks cannot leave, oversight by questionnaire rather than custody record, and permissions over shareholder data written before the data existed.

A Model Reads What You Wrote Down. A Person Sees What You Did.

With every house now worried about what AI will do to its data, the honest answer is that the brand is the more exposed of the two — and neither risk arrived with the model. In military-heavy regions, the data risk runs higher still. Buy the AI. Govern the path. Keep the boots on the ground.

Data is at stake in a way that is measurable, priced and insurable. Brand is at stake in a way that is none of those things. A house that routes its risk capital through an entity its own state cannot examine will route its data the same way, and its artwork after that.

Brand Safety Used to Be a Phone Call. Now It Is a Search.

A reputation was once protected, and ruined, by a few people who knew each other. AI has changed every part of that: it floods the web with synthetic content, fakes the brand itself, and reads a company, its principals, its vendors and their circle, down to posts, chats and email from years ago, in seconds. Most brands are still using the old controls.

Brand safety no longer means where a logo appears. It means what a company, its principals and their circle have already published, and that includes its vendors, because AI systems often collapse a brand's public expression and its vendors' into the same result. A market will price that before anyone checks who wrote it.

Filipino skincare brand hits 4.5M units as TikTok Shop PH No. 1 beauty seller

Dermorepubliq surpassed 4.5 million units sold and emerged as the No. 1 beauty and personal care brand on TikTok Shop Philippines, per Manila Times, building on 310 percent year-over-year growth.

ReadingThe steal: TikTok Shop is a closed social loop where demo, purchase, and review live in the same app. Dermorepubliq did not build a separate storefront; they nested inside the platform's native commerce infrastructure. For a physical beauty brand, this means: film the demo, link to inventory in the same post, fulfill from a single warehouse. No paid ads, no external traffic costs. The 4.5M units came from one channel. If you ship SKUs to a beauty category, test a single bestseller on TikTok Shop before asking for shelf space—measure velocity, then scale supply.
WatchWatch for Dermorepubliq expanding beyond TikTok Shop to Shopee and Lazada with the same product-first, platform-native playbook.

TikTok Shop and Lookfantastic drive H1 2026 revenue jump for luxury beauty

THG Beauty, owner of Lookfantastic and Cult Beauty, saw revenue rise in the first half of 2026 on the back of social-led sales through TikTok Shop and strong demand for skin care and K-beauty, per Cosmetics Business.

ReadingThe steal: the beauty buyer on TikTok Shop is not the same buyer as the one on Lookfantastic. TikTok Shop attracts impulse, demo-driven, trend-aware shoppers; Lookfantastic anchors the loyalty and basket-building. By operating both, THG captures the fast buyer and the deliberate buyer in the same quarter. For a beauty brand, the play is: do not ask 'TikTok Shop or website'—ask 'TikTok Shop AND website, which product lineup goes to each, and which teams run them separately.' Assign your K-beauty bestseller and your newest skin-care launch to the platform; park your bundles and gift sets on the website.
WatchWatch for THG testing subscription or replenishment programs on Lookfantastic to capture repeat revenue while TikTok Shop captures new discovery.

Date brand scales to 12,000+ retail doors with 50% more fruit supply

Joolies, a Medjool date brand, entered the 2026-27 season with 50 percent more fruit and expanded distribution to 12,000+ retail doors, growing at nearly 3 times the category average, per Manila Times.

ReadingThe steal: the math is inverted from typical DTC. Joolies started with supply advantage (family heritage + proven growing yield) and used it to demand shelf space, not the other way around. Most emerging food brands chase retail and hope supply follows; Joolies proved supply first, then retailers came. For a CPG brand, the play is: before you pitch a buyer, audit your production capacity for a 50 percent jump. If you can commit to 12,000 doors with a supply buffer, you own the conversation. If you cannot, you are asking the buyer to hold inventory risk. Supply confidence is a sales tool.
WatchWatch for Joolies testing private-label partnerships with regional grocers to lock in volume and shield from SKU cuts.

Hair removal cream brand ranks among top-growing beauty on TikTok Shop

Phofay, a hair removal cream brand, is among the 10 top-growing beauty brands on TikTok Shop in 2026, per WWD, competing against broader body care and skin care lines.

ReadingThe steal: category-specific brands (single product, single problem solve) outrank general beauty lines on TikTok Shop because the demo is unambiguous. Phofay does one thing and shows it working in 15 seconds. Broad skincare lines require trust and narrative. If you own a mono-category physical product (lash extension, nail strengthener, spot treatment, deodorant), do not try to build a beauty line—go to TikTok Shop, demo the one thing, and measure velocity before expanding. The platform rewards clarity and proof, not portfolio.
WatchWatch for Phofay testing bundle offers with razors or post-care products to lift average order value within the same platform feed.

Target expands food and beverage shelf, creating retail slot for emerging brands

Target is aggressively expanding food and beverage offerings, creating a retail platform for emerging brands that did not have shelf access before, per Forbes.

ReadingThe steal: when a major retailer expands a category, their internal team does not have time to prospect every emerging brand. They publish buyer contact info and timeline. The play is not 'pitch Target'—it is 'watch Target's expansion calendar, identify the open categories, build a one-page sell sheet for your single SKU (not your lineup), and submit it to the right buyer at the right moment.' Target's food and beverage expansion is a documented open call, not a closed door. Move this week if you have inventory ready.

Only 14% of food-beverage brands saw purchasing intent lift in 2026

According to Morning Consult data cited in Food Dive, only 14 percent of food and beverage brands experienced growth in consumer purchasing intent in 2026, with legacy players capturing the biggest boost.

ReadingThe steal: if only 14 percent of brands are growing intent, your job is not to break through the noise—it is to become one of the 14. That does not mean more ads or more product. It means: audit your current customer's repeat rate and NPS, cut SKUs that do not repeat, and stack repeat buyers into a retention engine. Legacy players are not winning on new features; they are winning on availability and trust. If you cannot be available everywhere (yet), be available to the right customer who buys again. Measure intent via repeat rate, not social impressions.
WatchWatch for emerging brands to cluster around niche categories or dietary claims (functional, plant-based, allergen-free) where intent is still rising.

24% of food-beverage spend now goes to private label; 20% of SKUs face cuts

Private label now represents 24 percent of food and beverage dollars, with retailers like BJ's cutting 20 percent of SKUs and Kroger adding 870 private label items, per Food Industry Executive. The retailer is forcing portfolio ranking.

ReadingThe steal: the buyer is not cutting brands based on brand strength or social following—they are ranking by velocity and margin. Your counter move is not to pitch harder; it is to show the buyer the data: your SKU's sell-through rate, your repeat-buyer percentage, your margin after slotting fees. If you cannot show velocity, do not defend the slot—surrender it, move the inventory to DTC and TikTok Shop, and use that channel to build the repeat-buyer base. Then walk back to the buyer with real data, not pitch. Most brands defend shelf they should surrender and surrender shelf they should defend because they do not know their own numbers.
WatchWatch for private label penetration to hit 30 percent within 18 months if branded velocity does not improve.
