Why Banks Are Losing the Room

The fee story and the rate story are well covered. The vendor estate banks and their suppliers gorged on in the eighties and nineties is still running, largely unexamined, and it is the part that will not survive scrutiny.

The vendor estate banks and suppliers built in the eighties and nineties is still running on original agreements: accountability that cannot be outsourced, regulators conceding banks cannot leave, oversight by questionnaire rather than custody record, and permissions over shareholder data written before the data existed.

A Model Reads What You Wrote Down. A Person Sees What You Did.

With every house now worried about what AI will do to its data, the honest answer is that the brand is the more exposed of the two — and neither risk arrived with the model. In military-heavy regions, the data risk runs higher still. Buy the AI. Govern the path. Keep the boots on the ground.

Data is at stake in a way that is measurable, priced and insurable. Brand is at stake in a way that is none of those things. A house that routes its risk capital through an entity its own state cannot examine will route its data the same way, and its artwork after that.

Brand Safety Used to Be a Phone Call. Now It Is a Search.

A reputation was once protected, and ruined, by a few people who knew each other. AI has changed every part of that: it floods the web with synthetic content, fakes the brand itself, and reads a company, its principals, its vendors and their circle, down to posts, chats and email from years ago, in seconds. Most brands are still using the old controls.

Brand safety no longer means where a logo appears. It means what a company, its principals and their circle have already published, and that includes its vendors, because AI systems often collapse a brand's public expression and its vendors' into the same result. A market will price that before anyone checks who wrote it.

Filipino skincare brand hits 4.5M units sold, dominates TikTok Shop PH

Per Manila Times, Dermorepubliq surpassed 4.5 million units sold across bestsellers and emerged as the No. 1 beauty and personal care brand on TikTok Shop Philippines, building on 310 percent year-over-year growth.

ReadingThe steal: TikTok Shop in emerging markets rewards high velocity and social proof over media budget. A brand with strong unit economics can outrank national players by leaning into platform-native seeding—creators, live-stream drops, and bundle offers that exploit the 'social-first' feed. The play is to cap inventory on a first drop, seed 20-30 micro-creators with free units, and let the feed comments and saved-product counts drive the next batch restock message. No pre-roll, no influencer contracts—just peer validation inside the platform.
WatchWatch for Dermorepubliq to test bundled sets and limited-time live-shopping events on TikTok Shop to sustain momentum into Q4.

Revenue jumps as TikTok Shop and K-beauty seeding shift demand

Per Cosmetics Business, THG Beauty saw revenue rise in H1 2026 driven by demand for skincare and K-beauty products sold via TikTok Shop and through its owned platforms Lookfantastic and Cult Beauty.

ReadingThe steal: if you own a multi-brand portfolio or can curate licensed supply, TikTok Shop is not a replacement for your website—it's a demand-capture layer. The play is to seed the platform with your highest-turning SKUs first (not your newest), let velocity data flow back, and expand assortment based on what the platform's algorithm rewards. THG's edge was that it could restock faster than single-brand competitors because it owned the supply chain. If you don't own inventory, partner with a distributor who does, then negotiate consignment or buyback terms on 20% of SKU mix and test it live.

Phofay (hair removal cream)
WWD ↗

Hair removal brand Phofay ranks in TikTok Shop's top 10 growing beauty brands

Per WWD, Phofay, a hair removal cream brand, is among the top 10 growing beauty brands on TikTok Shop in 2026, alongside body care brands like Crowned Skin.

ReadingThe steal: TikTok Shop surface categories that are underserved by legacy retailers but over-served by word-of-mouth searches. Hair removal, body care, and niche personal care have high repeat intent if the first trial is positive. The play is to enter TikTok Shop with a single hero SKU, not a full line. Seed 10-15 micro-creators in the hair removal/skincare space with free product and let them demo the application and results. Measure saves and cart-adds (not impressions), and restock based on platform velocity signals. If your first SKU hits top 50 in category, expand to a bundle or multi-pack on your second drop.
WatchWatch for Phofay to test bundle packs (hair removal + post-care serum) or expand into adjacent categories like body exfoliation.

9-month-old smart mirror brand drove viral awareness with influencer experiential event

Per Glossy, Swan Beauty, a 9-month-old smart mirror company, sponsored a lavish bachelorette trip for influencer Brigette Pheloung in April 2026, generating viral online attention and driving brand awareness.

ReadingThe steal: a single experiential moment with the right influencer (mid-tier, 500k–2M followers, strong aesthetics audience) can outpace 50 product seeding shipments. The play is to identify one influencer whose audience matches your target buyer, propose an experience (not a product demo), and document it with a short-form video series. For Swan Beauty, a mirror in a luxury setting was contextual—it belonged in the bachelorette-trip narrative. The brand then leveraged NYFW (a month later) to amplify the awareness into a retail or DTC push. If you're selling a premium, visual product, one viral moment beats a thousand micro-drops.
WatchWatch for Swan Beauty to convert the viral bachelorette moment into a retail partnership or DTC pre-order campaign tied to NYFW or holiday gifting.

Target Beauty Studio expands K-beauty shelf placement beyond Sephora, Ulta incumbents

Per Modern Retail, Target launched a new Beauty Studio in stores that features far more K-beauty brands than a year prior, giving Korean beauty brands a new retail outlet beyond Sephora and Ulta.

ReadingThe steal: if you're a mid-tier brand (especially in a category trend like K-beauty), a secondary retail partner buying their own curation can move faster than the legacy incumbents. The play is to map which regional retailers are building dedicated category sections (wellness, K-beauty, clean beauty, etc.) and pitch placement directly to their buying teams. Target's Beauty Studio is not a concession or a shop-in-shop—it's a curated section with dedicated staffing. If your brand is in a trending category, you don't have to crack Sephora's buyer; you can reach Target's merchandising team with comp data (TikTok Shop velocity, Amazon trend rank, social sentiment) and ask for a test in 50 stores. Faster approval, faster feedback.
WatchWatch for other regional and national retailers to announce similar category-focused retail environments (beauty, wellness, home goods) to compete with e-commerce discovery.

DTC footwear brand surpassed $200M sales by testing retail and wholesale carefully

Per Modern Retail, Rothy's built a footwear brand with staying power by surpassing $200 million in sales through careful testing of retail and wholesale channels, unlike competing DTC footwear brands like Allbirds that struggled.

ReadingThe steal: wholesale is not binary—it's a test you phase in. The play is to hit $5–10M DTC revenue first, then pitch one regional retail partner (e.g., a specialty retailer or department store buyer) with a single hero SKU. Negotiate terms that don't require massive inventory commitments upfront (e.g., consignment on 30% of the order, buy-back guarantee on 50%). Track sell-through weekly. If sell-through is strong (>50% in 12 weeks), expand to a second retail partner. If weak, pause and optimize your DTC channel first. Rothy's reached $200M by never letting a single channel (DTC or wholesale) exceed 60–70% of revenue—diversification kept them stable when any one channel faced pressure.
WatchWatch for Rothy's to test new adjacent categories (handbags, accessories) through existing retail partners to expand wallet share.

Creators moving holiday content calendars earlier; brands testing sales strategies ahead of peak

Per Modern Retail, creators and brands are starting holiday campaigns months early (moving calendars forward from traditional September start) to build awareness and test sales strategies before peak season.

ReadingThe steal: if you're planning a holiday drop or seasonal campaign, the traditional September-start calendar is now the midpoint, not the beginning. The play is to map your creator partnerships and seeding 8–10 weeks before your target sell-date (so if you want to peak in November, start seeding in late August). Brief creators on the theme and offer flexibility on posting dates—let them test messaging and content angles in early September when feeds are lighter, and amplify winning posts with paid media in mid-October when competition heats up. Creators moving early means lower CPM and higher CPM on creator content in September; use that to your advantage.
WatchWatch for early holiday campaign results (Sept–Oct 2026) to signal whether moving campaigns forward actually lifts peak-season performance or just shifts demand earlier.
