Why Banks Are Losing the Room

The fee story and the rate story are well covered. The vendor estate banks and their suppliers gorged on in the eighties and nineties is still running, largely unexamined, and it is the part that will not survive scrutiny.

The vendor estate banks and suppliers built in the eighties and nineties is still running on original agreements: accountability that cannot be outsourced, regulators conceding banks cannot leave, oversight by questionnaire rather than custody record, and permissions over shareholder data written before the data existed.

A Model Reads What You Wrote Down. A Person Sees What You Did.

With every house now worried about what AI will do to its data, the honest answer is that the brand is the more exposed of the two — and neither risk arrived with the model. In military-heavy regions, the data risk runs higher still. Buy the AI. Govern the path. Keep the boots on the ground.

Data is at stake in a way that is measurable, priced and insurable. Brand is at stake in a way that is none of those things. A house that routes its risk capital through an entity its own state cannot examine will route its data the same way, and its artwork after that.

Brand Safety Used to Be a Phone Call. Now It Is a Search.

A reputation was once protected, and ruined, by a few people who knew each other. AI has changed every part of that: it floods the web with synthetic content, fakes the brand itself, and reads a company, its principals, its vendors and their circle, down to posts, chats and email from years ago, in seconds. Most brands are still using the old controls.

Brand safety no longer means where a logo appears. It means what a company, its principals and their circle have already published, and that includes its vendors, because AI systems often collapse a brand's public expression and its vendors' into the same result. A market will price that before anyone checks who wrote it.

Spot & Tango
Modern Retail ↗

Dog food brand deploys $3.5M brand marketing after zero spend strategy

Per Modern Retail, Spot & Tango moved from performance-only spend to a $3.5 million annual brand marketing budget spanning out-of-home, connected TV, and digital channels.

ReadingThe steal: most DTC brands that go wholesale never displace the performance funnel—they just starve the top. Spot & Tango reversed it. They kept performance running and added brand to the mix. Start with one format—OOH in neighborhoods where vet clinics sit—run it for 90 days, measure foot traffic to your retail partners, then expand. The brand work doesn't replace performance; it speeds up the close rate on the sales that were already coming.
MY STASH TAKEThis is the moment every DTC owner dreads but should plan for: you've filled the performance bucket and it's getting expensive to lift more water. Spot & Tango didn't panic and cut spend—they went up. They asked: who in my market doesn't know I exist yet? And they paid to get in front of them in places where dog buyers already hang. It's old-school thinking wrapped in modern media. Most of us think brand marketing is for giants. It's not. It's for anyone who's run out of room to grow in the search box.
WatchWatch for Q4 retail lift tied to OOH flight starts in Q3—measure it at POS if they share it.

Dave's displacer Bread
Modern Retail ↗

Seasonal SKU revived after 7-year discontinuation, now rolled nationwide

Per Modern Retail, Dave's displacer Bread brought back pumpkin spice bagels—originally discontinued seven years prior—and is shipping them nationwide as part of a year-round seasonal strategy.

ReadingThe steal: don't displace a SKU because it underperformed once. Map the season it won in, bring it back at the right time with a fresh SKU count, and turn it into a predictable quarterly drop. Pumpkin spice is evergreen fall demand—customers will search for it. Be there when they do. Build a calendar with your top 3 SKUs, assign seasons, and pre-ship retail partners 6 weeks early so they can shelf-set before the search volume spikes. The win isn't the bagel; it's the predictability.
MY STASH TAKESeasonal strategy sounds simple until you try it. Demand is real but timing is brutal—hit it 3 weeks late and you're sitting on inventory through the season. Dave's learned this the hard way by displacing the bagel, then realized that was a mistake. Now they're treating seasonality like a business line, not an accident. This works for any edible with a cultural moment attached. Spring energy bars. Summer sodas. Fall snacks. Map your top 3 SKUs to seasons now, ship early, own the moment.

Beauty brand launches first influencer collab with sports-adjacent creator

Per Glossy, Nette launched its first creator partnership, joining a growing wave of sports-and-beauty collaborations.

ReadingThe steal: don't seed product to beauty creators if your buyer lives in the wellness-to-fitness lane. Find the creator who owns both categories with credibility in neither—the athlete-adjacent figure who blogs wellness but isn't a beauty influencer. Their audience is less saturated with beauty pitches and primed to believe this person's beauty recommendation because they trust her other advice. Partner with one creator for 90 days, give them free SKU to feature, ask them to post twice monthly. Measure link clicks, not followers.
MY STASH TAKEBeauty brands have been seeding to beauty creators forever. The margin there is crushed because everyone's doing it. Nette saw the gap: sports and wellness audiences are underexposed to new beauty brands. Morgan Riddle isn't a beauty influencer; she's a lifestyle creator who happens to talk about how she looks and feels. That's permission to sell beauty without sounding like you're selling beauty. If you're physical product, find the adjacent category where your buyer already listens and seed there first.

Global brand platform Born to Feel stretches across retail, marketing, and product

Per Glossy, Ugg unveiled Born to Feel, an overarching brand platform designed to reach across marketing, stores, and international operations.

ReadingThe steal: if you're expanding wholesale or international, you need a north-star platform that translates across channels and markets. Ugg built Born to Feel to sit above product and tie the brand together in places where product alone can't land. Your messaging in Sephora should sound like your messaging in your flagship store, which should sound like your Instagram. Build one platform that works in print, digital, in-store, and retail partnerships. Test it in three markets before rolling everywhere.
MY STASH TAKEMost brands don't have a real platform—they have a tagline. Ugg went deeper. Born to Feel isn't about boots; it's about the feeling of being in them. That emotion travels. It works in Japan and Indianapolis. A smart operator knows that when she hits wholesale or international, she can't just translate the product story. You need a human story that sticks across borders and channels. That's a platform. Spend a quarter on it now, save a year in localized marketing later.
WatchWatch for roll-out across Ugg retail stores and wholesale partners starting Q4.

Hotel operator builds wellness hospitality blueprint as brand showroom

Per Glossy, Proper Hotel president Brian De Lowe and SVP Jamie Mark spoke about creating a wellness hospitality blueprint—a model where hotels function as brand showrooms and distribution points.

ReadingThe steal: if you make a physical product with a lifestyle story, test a pop-up inside a boutique hotel in your target market for 90 days. Stock inventory, train staff, measure guest purchases and email captures. If conversion holds above 8%, approach the hotel with a revenue-share model and expand to 3-5 properties. You get brand immersion, retail, and data. The hotel gets differentiation and retail royalties. No wholesale margin pressure.
MY STASH TAKEHotels are waking up to the fact that guests want experiences, not just beds. Brands are waking up that showrooms are expensive. Proper is the bridge—they're proving that a hotel stay can be your brand experience. You see the product, touch it, buy it, leave. For a direct-to-consumer brand hitting a growth ceiling, this is a play worth testing. Pick one high-intent market (Scottsdale, Austin, Miami), find a boutique hotel with your customer overlap, and run a 90-day pop-up. Measure everything.

Lela Rose, Public Goods, Quilt (multi-brand pattern)
Modern Retail ↗

Multiple brands use hotels as brand showrooms and audience acquisition points

Per Modern Retail, brands including Lela Rose, Public Goods, and Quilt are betting on hotels in picturesque locales to market products to new audiences.

ReadingThe steal: if three or more brands in your category are testing hotels, your market window is open. Find the top 5 boutique hotels in your core market, identify which have the highest guest overlap with your buyer profile, and approach with a 60-day test: 2-3 SKUs on consignment, staff training, weekly sales data. If you hit 15+ units per week, negotiate a 90-day extension. The cost is low; the foot traffic is warm.
MY STASH TAKEThis isn't new—pop-ups have been around forever. But the consistency of brands (not just retailers) using hotels tells you something: these brands have figured out that a guest in a nice hotel in a nice place is a genuinely warm lead. They're not cold. They're in a spending mood, they're isolated from distractions, and they're invested in the lifestyle the hotel sells. If you're a lifestyle brand, this is a pattern worth joining now before every hotel lobby is a pop-up mall.

Beauty retailer enters TikTok Shop as social shopping gains retail legitimacy

Per Glossy, Sephora joined TikTok Shop, signaling that the platform's combination of entertainment and frictionless shopping now poses a real threat to traditional beauty retail.

ReadingThe steal: if a giant in your category has just entered a platform you've been ignoring, it's a signal that the platform has matured enough to drive real sales volume. Sephora didn't move until the economics made sense. Watch for other beauty players to follow. Get SKU ready for TikTok Shop—start with your top 5 bestsellers, ship product to the platform's warehouse, and run organic product seeding. Don't pay for ads on TikTok Shop yet; let creators find you through the feed.
MY STASH TAKESephora wouldn't move unless the numbers worked. That's the signal. TikTok Shop is past the hype phase. It's a real channel now. If you're in beauty or personal care, get your SKU registered and ready to ship to their warehouse this quarter. You don't need to be a giant—Sephora's move creates air cover for smaller brands to test. Start with one product, measure 90 days, expand if attach rate is above 2%.
