Why Banks Are Losing the Room

The fee story and the rate story are well covered. The vendor estate banks and their suppliers gorged on in the eighties and nineties is still running, largely unexamined, and it is the part that will not survive scrutiny.

The vendor estate banks and suppliers built in the eighties and nineties is still running on original agreements: accountability that cannot be outsourced, regulators conceding banks cannot leave, oversight by questionnaire rather than custody record, and permissions over shareholder data written before the data existed.

A Model Reads What You Wrote Down. A Person Sees What You Did.

With every house now worried about what AI will do to its data, the honest answer is that the brand is the more exposed of the two — and neither risk arrived with the model. In military-heavy regions, the data risk runs higher still. Buy the AI. Govern the path. Keep the boots on the ground.

Data is at stake in a way that is measurable, priced and insurable. Brand is at stake in a way that is none of those things. A house that routes its risk capital through an entity its own state cannot examine will route its data the same way, and its artwork after that.

Brand Safety Used to Be a Phone Call. Now It Is a Search.

A reputation was once protected, and ruined, by a few people who knew each other. AI has changed every part of that: it floods the web with synthetic content, fakes the brand itself, and reads a company, its principals, its vendors and their circle, down to posts, chats and email from years ago, in seconds. Most brands are still using the old controls.

Brand safety no longer means where a logo appears. It means what a company, its principals and their circle have already published, and that includes its vendors, because AI systems often collapse a brand's public expression and its vendors' into the same result. A market will price that before anyone checks who wrote it.

US shoppers bought 7% less but spent 8% more in H1 2026

Impact.com's mid-year benchmark found US shoppers made 7% fewer purchases in H1 2026 while spending 8% more year-over-year across 2,319 North American retailers.

ReadingThe steal: if your customer buys half as often but spends 15% more per trip, your whole funnel changes. Stop chasing transaction frequency. Test bundle pricing—larger orders, fewer SKUs to choose from, pre-decided value stacks. Offer a 3-pack or 5-piece instead of individual units. The customer is already convinced to spend; your job is to capture more of it in one order. Run this week: audit your top 20% of orders by value—what's in those carts? Build a pre-priced bundle around that pattern and feature it as the default add-on.
MY STASH TAKEThis is the clearest signal yet that the old DTC playbook—'grow transaction frequency'—is dead. Shoppers are voting with their wallets: fewer visits, bigger checks. It means your email list is worth more if you're selling bigger units, and your unit economics shift entirely if you're chasing one-off sales. The real move is to stop optimizing for repeat 1x purchases and start building bundles that justify a larger, less-frequent order. Pricing power is there if you package it right.
WatchWatch for subscription and membership models to re-emerge as a way to capture that higher per-transaction spend on a regular cadence.

Conversion rate platform delivers 64% lift for e-commerce clients

Keep Converting, backed by Nuwa Capital and COTU Ventures, reported an average 64% conversion lift for e-commerce clients as the platform exited stealth in September 2026.

ReadingThe steal: conversion rate lift at checkout is a linear multiplier on all your upstream spend. If you're running paid ads or email, every dollar spent driving traffic becomes 1.64x more valuable if conversion improves by 64%. Don't start a new channel—fix the one you have. Run this week: audit your checkout drop-off rate (the % of users who add to cart but don't complete purchase). Test a single-field form, instant payment options (Apple Pay, Google Pay), or a post-purchase upsell offer to recover 5-10% of those abandons. Track the before and after conversion rate; even a 10% lift compounds across all traffic sources.
MY STASH TAKEMost brands obsess over driving more eyeballs. A platform showing a 64% conversion lift is saying the eyeballs you already have are worth twice as much if you fix the last inch. That's unsexy but it's the work—audit your funnel, find the leak, plug it. For a small brand, this is more valuable than a new ad spend because the ROI is immediate and measurable.

Filipino skincare surpassed 4.5M units sold, topped TikTok Shop PH

Dermorepubliq, a Filipino skincare brand, surpassed 4.5M units sold across best-sellers and emerged as the top seller on TikTok Shop Philippines per Manila Standard.

ReadingThe steal: TikTok Shop operates differently than marketplace or social selling elsewhere. It rewards on-platform sellers who build content alongside product—not ads, not influencer seeding, but the seller's own account as a channel. The brand became the destination, not the product. Run this week: if you ship to any Southeast Asian market, test a TikTok Shop account (not just ads, an actual seller account). Post 2-3x weekly with behind-the-scenes, unboxing, or user-generated content. Price competitively—the platform rewards volume and velocity. The first 90 days are a volume play to hit bestseller status; once listed, algorithmic reach follows.
MY STASH TAKEDermorepubliq is not a household name in the US, but in its region it's outranking legacy skincare on a platform built for direct-to-consumer sellers. This is the clearest signal yet that TikTok Shop is not a test channel—it's a primary distribution engine if you're in or shipping to APAC. US brands sleeping on regional platform dominance are leaving volume on the table.
WatchWatch for US skincare brands to test TikTok Shop in SEA markets as a low-risk expansion before betting on local retail.

Fragrance brand wins TikTok Shop 2026 Seller of the Year

BellaVita Luxury was named 2026 Fragrance Seller of the Year at the TikTok Shop Awards, recognizing the brand's sales performance on the platform per Business Insider Markets.

ReadingThe steal: fragrance sellers are winning on TikTok Shop by shifting from 'apply this scent' education to unboxing theater and scent-note storytelling in video. The category benefits from ASMR-style content (bottle opens, spray sounds, waft descriptions). If you sell fragrance, beauty, or any sensory product, the TikTok Shop award winners are signposting the tactic: short-form video that shows the experience of the product, not just the product. Run this week: if you sell fragrance or a scent-driven product, film a 15-30 second unboxing video emphasizing sound and texture (cap twist, box open, spray). Post it to your TikTok Shop account 2-3x weekly. Lean into ASMR language in captions ('crisp top note', 'woody base', 'citrus burst').
MY STASH TAKEA fragrance brand winning on a video platform still surprises people, but it shouldn't. Fragrance is the most sensory product you can sell digitally short of taste—video captures the unboxing moment that makes people want to buy. The award signals TikTok Shop is maturing beyond commodity goods into higher-ticket categories.

QR-linked packaging is scaling; early movers capture data and repeat sales

Connected packaging—physical packs embedded with QR or NFC codes—is scaling across the industry as brands turn the box into a gateway to product information, traceability, and digital services, per decision marketing and MSN coverage.

ReadingThe steal: the box is the last physical touchpoint before the product sits on a shelf. If you print a code on it and drive the unboxing user to a custom landing page (not a generic QR reader), you own the moment of first product engagement. That moment is where you ask for email, offer a loyalty entry, or show a reorder CTA. The code is not the win; the post-code landing page is. Run this week: audit your current packaging. If it doesn't have a QR code or NFC tag, add one to the inside lid. Link it to a landing page (not a generic link) that asks for email in exchange for a 10% reorder discount or care guide. Track scans and email captures for 30 days. If scan rate is above 5% of shipped units, expand the program to all packaging.
MY STASH TAKEConnected packaging sounds tech-forward, but it's just a smarter unboxing. The brands sleeping on this are leaving first-purchaser email addresses on the table—the most valuable data point in retention. By the time a buyer opens the box, they're already sold. That moment is when you ask them to buy again.
WatchWatch for connected packaging to integrate loyalty points or membership sign-ups as codes scale—the pack becomes a gateway to higher-margin repeat programs.

Bedding brand builds first celebrity campaign in-house instead of agency

Brooklinen went in-house for its first celebrity-led marketing effort, directing production and creative strategy without a traditional agency partner, per Marketing Dive.

ReadingThe steal: if you're testing celebrity partnerships, film it yourself instead of hiring an agency. You'll spend 30-50% less and own the raw footage forever. The production doesn't need to be Hollywood-grade—it needs to be authentic to your brand voice and fast to deploy. Film 2-3 content pieces with the partner in a single day, edit to short-form (15-30 sec), and roll it across TikTok, Instagram Reels, and email within a week. Run this week: if you have a budget for influencer or celebrity seeding, request the raw footage rights in your contract before signing. Tell the partner you want 3-5 short-form pieces, not one big ad. Shoot in a single 4-hour session. Repurpose the footage across all channels.
MY STASH TAKEBrooklinen going in-house for celebrity is not surprising—it's the obvious move once you realize agencies are mostly charging for coordination, not creativity. The real insight is that celebrity content is becoming a commodity that small brands can produce if they nail casting and authenticity. The celebrity does the work; you just point a camera at them.
WatchWatch for more DTC brands to build in-house creative studios and hire freelance talent instead of agency retainers.

Target opens luxury-format store in Hamptons without signature red exterior

Target opened a new store location in Bridgehampton, New York, with a redesigned exterior that removes the retailer's signature red color, suggesting a format shift for affluent markets per Retail Dive.

ReadingThe steal: if you're selling physical products and testing new markets, store design and brand expression can vary by location without losing identity. The red Target box is globally recognizable; Target Hamptons is testing whether a subtler, premium aesthetic can capture a different customer segment. For smaller brands: if you're opening a flagship or pop-up in a high-income area, test a design refresh that softens or neutralizes your brand color. Run this week: if you're planning a retail presence or pop-up, audit your brand color and typography in that neighborhood. Would a muted or inverted version feel more local? Test it in mockups before committing to the build.
MY STASH TAKEThis is whisper-stage, but it's worth watching because it signals major retailers are not locked into uniform aesthetics anymore. If Target can test a red-free store, smaller brands have permission to adapt their visual identity for context. The store is an experiment; the insight is about flexibility.
WatchWatch whether Target rolls this format to other affluent suburbs or if it remains a one-off test.
