Why Banks Are Losing the Room

The fee story and the rate story are well covered. The vendor estate banks and their suppliers gorged on in the eighties and nineties is still running, largely unexamined, and it is the part that will not survive scrutiny.

The vendor estate banks and suppliers built in the eighties and nineties is still running on original agreements: accountability that cannot be outsourced, regulators conceding banks cannot leave, oversight by questionnaire rather than custody record, and permissions over shareholder data written before the data existed.

A Model Reads What You Wrote Down. A Person Sees What You Did.

With every house now worried about what AI will do to its data, the honest answer is that the brand is the more exposed of the two — and neither risk arrived with the model. In military-heavy regions, the data risk runs higher still. Buy the AI. Govern the path. Keep the boots on the ground.

Data is at stake in a way that is measurable, priced and insurable. Brand is at stake in a way that is none of those things. A house that routes its risk capital through an entity its own state cannot examine will route its data the same way, and its artwork after that.

Brand Safety Used to Be a Phone Call. Now It Is a Search.

A reputation was once protected, and ruined, by a few people who knew each other. AI has changed every part of that: it floods the web with synthetic content, fakes the brand itself, and reads a company, its principals, its vendors and their circle, down to posts, chats and email from years ago, in seconds. Most brands are still using the old controls.

Brand safety no longer means where a logo appears. It means what a company, its principals and their circle have already published, and that includes its vendors, because AI systems often collapse a brand's public expression and its vendors' into the same result. A market will price that before anyone checks who wrote it.

Filipino skincare hits 4.5M units sold, dominates TikTok Shop PH

Dermorepubliq surpassed 4.5 million units sold across bestsellers and emerged as TikTok Shop Philippines' No. 1 brand, per Manila Standard.

ReadingThe steal: TikTok Shop rewards brands that treat it as a marketplace, not a media buy. Run your SKU logic on the platform itself — stock, pricing, bundle mix — and let video content prove the product, not sell it. The brand that wins here is the one that knows TikTok Shop's algorithm favors products with high video-to-sales ratio and repeat orders. Test a bundle of three bestsellers at a 15% discount, seed the video with organic user testimonials (not influencer ads), and watch the algo amplify it. This is not a paid play; this is a product-fit play on a platform that rewards velocity.
WatchWatch for Dermorepubliq to test a creator-seeded bundle exclusive to TikTok Shop to defend against copycat sellers moving into their top-ranked SKUs.

Unnamed facial device brand (TikTok Shop Japan)
TikTok Shop通信 ↗

One facial device brand holds 2 of top 10 spots, 71% of sales from video content

In the week of September 21–27, 2026, a single facial device brand occupied two of the top ten bestselling products on Japan's TikTok Shop, and 71% of all top-10 sales came from video-driven transactions, per TikTok Shop communication data.

ReadingThe steal: on TikTok Shop, your best seller does not cannibalize your second-best seller if both have video proof. Test a 'starter' and 'pro' version of the same device at different price points. Seed each with a different 15-second demo video showing a different result (e.g., 'see results in 2 weeks' vs. 'professional-grade for daily use'). The algo will rank both if watch time and conversion are high. Do not diversify; double down on what works. One brand, one category, two SKUs, two videos, two top-ten slots.
WatchWatch for this brand to launch a third SKU (e.g., travel size) to test if the pattern holds at three slots, or if diminishing returns kick in.

Running category outperforms during 4% revenue decline quarter

Nike reported year-over-year revenue declines of 4% for the quarter, but running footwear and apparel remained a bright spot in an otherwise sluggish earnings report, per Modern Retail.

ReadingThe steal: if your overall business is softening, isolate the one category that is still moving and treat it like a sub-brand. Double down on its community touchpoints (e.g., if running, partner with a local 5K, seed product to Strava leaders, run a Telegram group for returning buyers). Do not try to fix the whole business; extract and amplify the one part that works. Pull P&L data by category monthly. Identify your 'running' — the SKU or collection that moves even when everything else stalls. Test a loyalty offer (e.g., 'buy three pairs of running shoes, fourth pair 25% off') and watch the repeat order rate. This is category-within-brand focus, not brand-wide pivots.
WatchWatch for Nike to spin out a running-specific brand or to launch a running-only subscription service to defend the category from direct-to-consumer running brands.

Adds Costco, retailers, launches text-based shopping assistant

DoorDash expanded partnerships to include Costco and other major retailers while launching Text DoorDash, a texting shopping assistant, to position itself as a one-stop marketplace, per Modern Retail.

ReadingThe steal: add a text-order option to your DTC checkout. Partner with one high-volume retailer (grocery, bulk, or local) and offer a bundle exclusive to text orders (e.g., 'text BUNDLE to get 3-month supply at 20% off'). Text feels personal and lowers cart abandonment because the customer does not have to make ten clicks. Test this with repeat customers first (email them the text number, include it in the shipping box). Measure text-order conversion against app-order conversion. If text wins, scale it as your primary channel for existing buyers.
WatchWatch for DoorDash to layer in voice orders or to introduce a subscription tier for text-order members (unlimited free delivery on text orders).

Brands handing SKU control to creators; learn from outcomes

At Shoptalk Fall, brands including Favorite Daughter, SharkNinja, and Bob's Discount Furniture shared lessons from creator partnerships in which they ceded product and messaging control to creators, per Modern Retail.

ReadingThe steal: pick one mid-tier SKU (not your hero product, not a test SKU, something that can move volume but is not core to your brand identity). Hand it to a creator with a three-month exclusive launch window and zero messaging guidelines. Say: 'Sell this your way. We'll handle fulfillment. You own the narrative.' Pay them a flat fee or revenue share, not a per-post fee. The creator will find an angle you would never have written (e.g., a kitchenware brand's SKU becomes a 'work-from-home lunch hack' instead of a product feature). Measure sales velocity, return rate, and repeat orders. If the model works, repeat it with two more creators on different SKUs.
WatchWatch for these brands to expand creator-led SKU launches into a formal program (e.g., 'Creator Editions' as a product line).

Marketing teams outside the billion-dollar club embrace AI creative production

Mid-market CMOs are adopting AI creative production at scale as an ordinary practice, moving beyond one-off experiments, per Digiday.

ReadingThe steal: if you are a one-person or two-person marketing team running DTC, commit to testing 5 email subject lines and 3 email body variants per campaign using an AI tool (e.g., Copy.ai, Jasper, or Claude). Do not aim for perfect; aim for shipped. Run A/B tests on send day (same audience, different variants, measure open rate and click rate). Keep a swipe file of winning subject lines and body copy. After ten campaigns, you will have a template of what works for your audience. Automate this weekly. The teams winning are not the ones with the best copy; they are the ones testing the most variants the fastest.
WatchWatch for AI creative-production vendors to layer in attribution (which AI-generated variant drove the most revenue) so teams can stop guessing which creative works.

GS1 Digital Link QR codes ready for Sunrise 2027 retail transition

QRCodeStack now generates GS1-compliant Digital Link QR codes, positioning brands to meet retail point-of-sale system requirements by the end of 2027 under the Sunrise 2027 initiative, per USA Today.

ReadingThe steal: if you are shipping to retail or planning to, migrate your barcode strategy to GS1-compliant QR codes now. Do not wait for 2027. A QR code on your packaging can do what a barcode cannot: it can link to your app, to a reorder page, or to a video tutorial. Test a QR code on the back of the packaging that links to a 30-second 'how to use' video or to a subscription sign-up page. Measure scans. This is a free layer of engagement sitting on every box you ship. The retail systems will require it in 2027; you can start building the habit now.
WatchWatch for brands to embed QR codes that unlock exclusive content (e.g., 'scan this to unlock the founders' podcast') as a bridge between physical and digital.
