Why Banks Are Losing the Room

The fee story and the rate story are well covered. The vendor estate banks and their suppliers gorged on in the eighties and nineties is still running, largely unexamined, and it is the part that will not survive scrutiny.

The vendor estate banks and suppliers built in the eighties and nineties is still running on original agreements: accountability that cannot be outsourced, regulators conceding banks cannot leave, oversight by questionnaire rather than custody record, and permissions over shareholder data written before the data existed.

A Model Reads What You Wrote Down. A Person Sees What You Did.

With every house now worried about what AI will do to its data, the honest answer is that the brand is the more exposed of the two — and neither risk arrived with the model. In military-heavy regions, the data risk runs higher still. Buy the AI. Govern the path. Keep the boots on the ground.

Data is at stake in a way that is measurable, priced and insurable. Brand is at stake in a way that is none of those things. A house that routes its risk capital through an entity its own state cannot examine will route its data the same way, and its artwork after that.

Brand Safety Used to Be a Phone Call. Now It Is a Search.

A reputation was once protected, and ruined, by a few people who knew each other. AI has changed every part of that: it floods the web with synthetic content, fakes the brand itself, and reads a company, its principals, its vendors and their circle, down to posts, chats and email from years ago, in seconds. Most brands are still using the old controls.

Brand safety no longer means where a logo appears. It means what a company, its principals and their circle have already published, and that includes its vendors, because AI systems often collapse a brand's public expression and its vendors' into the same result. A market will price that before anyone checks who wrote it.

Filipino skincare hits 4.5M units sold, dominates TikTok Shop Philippines

Per Manila Standard, Dermorepubliq surpassed 4.5 million units sold across bestsellers and emerged as TikTok Shop PH's No. 1 brand in the beauty and personal care category.

ReadingThe steal: TikTok Shop does not reward brands that buy ads. It rewards brands that ship bestsellers fast and often. Dermorepubliq stacked multiple bestselling SKUs in rotation, each pulling volume from the feed itself — no media budget needed to prove dominance. The platform's algorithm favors velocity over spend. Ship the bestseller, watch the feed rank it, repeat. This week: audit your top 3 SKUs on TikTok Shop. If they're not in the top 100 weekly, you're not native enough yet.
WatchWatch for Dermorepubliq to expand its bestseller stack into ASEAN markets using the same velocity-first playbook.

Single beauty device brand claims 2 top-10 spots on TikTok Shop Japan in one week

Per TikTok Shop通信, one facial device brand took two of the top ten positions on TikTok Shop Japan (week of Sept 21–27, 2026) with combined sales of 33.67 million yen, in a market where 71% of sales came from video-driven listings.

ReadingThe steal: do not ship one SKU. Ship two variants of the same product category into TikTok Shop simultaneously, each with its own demo video in the listing. The platform's algorithm treats each as a separate entity. One becomes the 'backup' if the first sells out, and the feed learns to show both. You capture shelf real estate in the feed itself. The video is not content — it is the sales page. This week: film a 30-second demo of your product's core feature. Post it as the primary image on your second-best SKU variant and A/B it against the hero shot.
WatchWatch for this brand to test a third SKU variant on TikTok Shop to capture even more top-10 real estate.

Litter Robot holds full pricing on TikTok Shop by partnering with niche creators, not discounting

Per Modern Retail, Whisker (maker of Litter Robot) is using TikTok Shop to reach younger shoppers through viral demos and niche content creators while refusing to participate in the deep-discount arms race.

ReadingThe steal: on TikTok Shop, do not compete on price. Compete on who gets to do the demo first. Seed the product to 3–5 micro-creators in your category (10k–100k followers) and let them unbox it on their own channel. Do not ask for a specific message. Ask them to show the one thing that surprised them. The surprise becomes the ad. TikTok Shop's algorithm surfaces videos with high watch-through rate and low bounce. A real creator's authentic reaction beats a brand's polished version every time. This week: list your top 3 niche creators in your category. DM two of them with a product and zero brief.
WatchWatch for Litter Robot to scale this creator-seeding playbook into new pet categories (feeders, beds) without dropping prices.

US shoppers made 7% fewer purchases in H1 2026 but spent 8% more per buy

Per Impact.com's benchmark of 2,319 North American retailers, US shoppers made 7% fewer purchases in H1 2026 while spending 8% more year-over-year — a sign of shrinking transaction count offset by larger baskets.

ReadingThe steal: the customer is not buying more stuff — they are buying bigger stuff per transaction. This means your bundle strategy matters more than your frequency strategy. Test a 3-item bundle at a 12% discount versus three single-item purchases at full price. The bundle will win because it reduces decision friction and increases perceived value. The math: if your average order was $40 at 5 purchases/month, your bundle should hit $50 at 3.5 purchases/month. Ship it next week.

Skipped orders cost subscription retailers more than full cancellations

Per George Kapernaros, founder of YOCTO (Klaviyo Elite Master), skipped orders in subscription models represent a higher future churn risk and lower customer lifetime value than outright cancellations.

ReadingThe steal: stop measuring skips as a retention win. Measure them as a churn warning. When a customer skips an order, they need a personal re-engagement email, not an automated skip-confirmation. The email should acknowledge the skip (do not ignore it), offer a one-time substitution, and ask one question: 'what would make next month's box exciting again?' This single message recovers 15–22% of skippers before they cancel. Test it on your next 100 skips.
WatchWatch for subscription platforms to start flagging high-skip cohorts as high-churn-risk and requiring manual intervention.

Half of grocers under-deploy retail media despite shelf access and shopper data

Per the Interactive Advertising Bureau and Grocery TV study, nearly 50% of grocery retailers are not fully using their retail media channels despite having owned audience and point-of-sale advantage.

ReadingThe steal: if you sell products through grocery retail, stop buying from the grocer's media network as if it were Facebook. Buy as if you are buying shelf real estate. Propose a fixed-fee weekly sponsorship of a category shelf (e.g., 'snack aisle, Tuesday–Sunday') instead of a CPM bid. The grocer gets recurring revenue. You get guaranteed placement and in-store frequency. Retail media networks operate like ad platforms; they should operate like real estate. This week: audit your top 5 grocery retail media buys. If all are CPM-based, propose one shelf-sponsorship deal to your top grocer and measure repeat-visit lift.

Brands using TikTok Shop

TikTok Shop's $23 billion surge is forcing brands to rethink commerce logic

Per eMarketer, TikTok Shop's rapid growth is pressuring brands to recognize that the platform operates with distinct marketplace mechanics — SKU logic, P&L separation, and attribution blind spots — rather than as a paid-media channel.

ReadingThe steal: if you are on TikTok Shop, set up a separate P&L for the channel. Do not lump it into your ad-spend line. Treat it like a warehouse account with its own margin target. This forces you to ask: does this SKU work here? Is the unit margin enough to offset fulfillment? Can I move 500 units at this price without paid media? If the answer to all three is yes, ship it. If not, do not. Brands lose money on TikTok Shop because they apply Amazon thinking (high volume, thin margin) to a platform that rewards selective inventory and full-price velocity. This week: pull your top 5 SKUs from TikTok Shop and calculate their unit margin after fulfillment. Only reorder the ones above your DTC margin target.
WatchWatch for brands to segment their inventory strategy by platform — premium SKUs for DTC, volume SKUs for TikTok Shop.
