Why Banks Are Losing the Room

The fee story and the rate story are well covered. The vendor estate banks and their suppliers gorged on in the eighties and nineties is still running, largely unexamined, and it is the part that will not survive scrutiny.

The vendor estate banks and suppliers built in the eighties and nineties is still running on original agreements: accountability that cannot be outsourced, regulators conceding banks cannot leave, oversight by questionnaire rather than custody record, and permissions over shareholder data written before the data existed.

A Model Reads What You Wrote Down. A Person Sees What You Did.

With every house now worried about what AI will do to its data, the honest answer is that the brand is the more exposed of the two — and neither risk arrived with the model. In military-heavy regions, the data risk runs higher still. Buy the AI. Govern the path. Keep the boots on the ground.

Data is at stake in a way that is measurable, priced and insurable. Brand is at stake in a way that is none of those things. A house that routes its risk capital through an entity its own state cannot examine will route its data the same way, and its artwork after that.

Brand Safety Used to Be a Phone Call. Now It Is a Search.

A reputation was once protected, and ruined, by a few people who knew each other. AI has changed every part of that: it floods the web with synthetic content, fakes the brand itself, and reads a company, its principals, its vendors and their circle, down to posts, chats and email from years ago, in seconds. Most brands are still using the old controls.

Brand safety no longer means where a logo appears. It means what a company, its principals and their circle have already published, and that includes its vendors, because AI systems often collapse a brand's public expression and its vendors' into the same result. A market will price that before anyone checks who wrote it.

59% of gift recipients reject generic corporate gifts outright

Packed with Purpose and Harris Poll found that 59% of corporate gift recipients would rather receive nothing than a generic gift, per Yahoo Finance Small Business.

ReadingThe steal: corporate gifting is a trust lever disguised as logistics. A generic gift signals 'we bought in bulk and assigned you a slot.' A named, considered gift signals 'we see you.' For a DTC brand selling physical products, this means: if you're pitching corporate orders, don't sell the item — sell the personalization layer. Print names inside. Engrave initials. Include a handwritten note. The cost of personalization is near-zero; the perception lift is the entire deal. Brands winning corporate budgets are not cheaper — they're more thoughtful.
WatchWatch for Packed with Purpose to launch a corporate gifting tier with required personalization fields, making generic sending impossible.

43% of marketers admit they underuse in-store retail media

IAB and Grocery TV research found that marketers see a full-funnel role for in-store retail media, yet 43% report they underutilize the channel, per Shelby Report and Supermarket News.

ReadingThe steal: retail media is now a full-funnel channel, but most brands treat it as a last-mile tactic. If you're selling through retail, you likely have access to in-store media placements your competitors aren't using. The play: map your retail media spend the same way you map paid social — top-of-funnel awareness (high-traffic placement, lifestyle photography), mid-funnel (product education, side-by-side comparisons), conversion (checkout, discount messaging). Ask your retail partner for their available inventory. Most will hand it over free or cheap because half their sellers are sleeping on it.
WatchWatch for the first DTC-to-retail brand to publish a playbook for their own in-store media mix as a proof asset.

Horizon and Pacvue integrate planning, activation, and measurement in one system

Horizon Commerce and Pacvue expanded their partnership to connect retail media planning, activation, and measurement in a single operating system, per TMCnet.

ReadingThe steal: the winning move isn't the software — it's the workflow. Before integration, a retail media campaign looked like: plan in spreadsheet, send to retail partner, wait for activation window, check analytics a week later. Integration collapses this into: plan in system, activate same day, see real-time impressions and lift. For a small brand trying to test in-store media, this means: don't build your own measurement — partner with a retail tech vendor that owns both activation and analytics. The data velocity (speed of feedback) is the competitive edge.

QRCodeStack launches GS1 Digital Link QR codes ahead of Sunrise 2027

QRCodeStack now generates GS1 Digital Link QR codes built to URI Syntax 1.7.0, enabling brands to place a single 2D code on packaging before the Sunrise 2027 deadline, per USA Today press release.

ReadingThe steal: the barcode replacement is not just a scanning efficiency — it's a packaging real estate unlock. Today, most packaging has a barcode (UPC) that does one thing: tells the register the price. A GS1 Digital Link QR can do that AND link to a promo code, product tutorial, sustainability story, or reorder flow. For brands packaging now, the move: test a QRCodeStack code on one SKU. Print it. Ship it. Track clicks. If 20%+ of buyers scan it, you've found a direct line from package to your DTC funnel. If not, the barcode space itself is still real estate — it's not wasted.
WatchWatch for the first CPG brand to print a Digital Link QR that unlocks a surprise promo only readable via phone.

In-content ad insertion now identifies scenes contextually, not just programmatically

Omnicom Media and Rembrand partnered to evolve in-content ad placements, using context recognition to identify monetizable scenes within content, per Digiday.

ReadingThe steal: in-content ads outperform banner ads because they feel native. Most brands treat them as inventory slots. The real lever is context matching — your product appears in a scene where it already makes sense. For a DTC brand seeking content partnerships, stop pitching 'we want a mention.' Start pitching 'we want to appear when the creator shows this specific problem.' Work backward from the scene, not forward from your product. Brands winning on YouTube and TikTok aren't buying spots — they're matching their product to moments.
WatchWatch for Rembrand to release a case study showing lift for a specific product category using scene-matched insertions.

Gen Alpha now influences nearly half of total U.S. household spending for families with kids 8-14

Gen Alpha (ages 8-14) influences nearly 50% of household spending in families with children in that age range, per Digiday analysis.

ReadingThe steal: for packaged goods and products aimed at family households, Gen Alpha is not a niche segment — they're a purchasing force now. If your product has any appeal to kids 8-14, your real audience is half those kids and half the parents they influence. The move: create content and packaging that speaks to the kid's taste, not the parent's nostalgia. Kids influence, parents execute. Brands winning are not 'nostalgia plays' — they're kid-first design, parent-friendly messaging. Test a social campaign where a kid unboxes your product and reacts, then shows it to a parent. Measure lift among parents with kids 8-14.
WatchWatch for a major CPG brand to launch a Gen Alpha-specific product line with direct-to-kid social strategy.

Marketing moves closer to commerce; retail media, loyalty, and AI converge

Retail Insider's Q3 2026 Marketing & Customer Experience report notes that marketing is moving closer to the point of commerce, integrating retail media, loyalty, brand activations, AI, and commerce-linked measurement, per Retail Insider.

ReadingThe steal: if you're still thinking of marketing as separate from sales, you're already behind. The move is to build your brand infrastructure so that every touchpoint — social ad, email, in-store shelf, loyalty offer — connects to the next one. For a small DTC brand, this means: don't run social campaigns and hope people buy. Run campaigns that drop a code, send an email to non-purchasers with a loyalty incentive, and measure the loop. The brands ahead are not spending more — they're connecting what they're already spending so it feeds back into the funnel.
WatchWatch for the first mid-size brand to publish a deck showing cost-per-loyal-customer across all channels integrated.
