Why Banks Are Losing the Room

The fee story and the rate story are well covered. The vendor estate banks and their suppliers gorged on in the eighties and nineties is still running, largely unexamined, and it is the part that will not survive scrutiny.

The vendor estate banks and suppliers built in the eighties and nineties is still running on original agreements: accountability that cannot be outsourced, regulators conceding banks cannot leave, oversight by questionnaire rather than custody record, and permissions over shareholder data written before the data existed.

A Model Reads What You Wrote Down. A Person Sees What You Did.

With every house now worried about what AI will do to its data, the honest answer is that the brand is the more exposed of the two — and neither risk arrived with the model. In military-heavy regions, the data risk runs higher still. Buy the AI. Govern the path. Keep the boots on the ground.

Data is at stake in a way that is measurable, priced and insurable. Brand is at stake in a way that is none of those things. A house that routes its risk capital through an entity its own state cannot examine will route its data the same way, and its artwork after that.

Brand Safety Used to Be a Phone Call. Now It Is a Search.

A reputation was once protected, and ruined, by a few people who knew each other. AI has changed every part of that: it floods the web with synthetic content, fakes the brand itself, and reads a company, its principals, its vendors and their circle, down to posts, chats and email from years ago, in seconds. Most brands are still using the old controls.

Brand safety no longer means where a logo appears. It means what a company, its principals and their circle have already published, and that includes its vendors, because AI systems often collapse a brand's public expression and its vendors' into the same result. A market will price that before anyone checks who wrote it.

DoorDash hands brands live shelf data from millions of orders

DoorDash introduced a platform providing brands with purchase-based signals from consumer orders and audit-based signals from store shelves, per PYMNTS.

ReadingThe steal: real-time shelf data is a moat most brands don't have. DoorDash tied purchase data to shelf audit data in one view — that's the mechanics that matter. A small brand can now see if their SKU is actually getting picked or if the shelf placement is theater. Run your next reorder based on this signal, not last quarter's forecast. The move is to ask DoorDash for a data export before committing to the next wholesale order.
MY STASH TAKEMost brands are flying blind on what happens after the delivery arrives. You ship to a store, hope it sells, and get a report three weeks later. DoorDash just put a camera on the shelf and a meter on the cash register. The brands that use this to reorder their own wholesale inventory before the buyer calls them wins the conversation. Start there.
WatchWatch for small CPG brands using DoorDash shelf data to make the case for expanded placement in other retail channels.

Revlon cast heritage brand in pop culture—Teyana Taylor, Megan Moroney campaign

Revlon named musician and actress Teyana Taylor and country music star Megan Moroney as the faces of its 'Revlon Be Unforgettable' campaign, per Digiday.

ReadingThe steal: don't find a celebrity who matches your aesthetic — find two talent from different cultural lanes who can introduce your brand to audiences that don't know it yet. Teyana Taylor reaches hip-hop, R&B, and fashion; Megan Moroney reaches country and Midwest audiences. Revlon just doubled its addressable cultural sphere without launching new SKUs. The mechanism is that heritage brands already have permission to be in closets; they just need permission to be visible again. Pick talent first, product second.
MY STASH TAKERevlon could have pivoted the whole brand. Instead it asked: who has cultural permission we don't have yet? That's smarter. Smaller brands often think they need to become something else to matter. Start here instead: who already matters in a room you're not in?

Subway's Blueprint redesign rolling to every EMEA remodel from 2027

Subway unveiled Blueprint, a reimagined restaurant and brand experience for EMEA, rolling out to every new restaurant and remodel from 2027, per PR Newswire.

ReadingThe steal: when you redesign retail, don't make it optional for franchisees—tie it to the remodel cycle. Every time a franchisee repaints or upgrades, they build Blueprint instead. This spreads the cost and doesn't crater the franchisees who can't afford instant rebrand. The mechanism is the forced refresh on renovation rather than the mandate to go all new at once. Smaller brands can borrow this: tie your new brand identity to the next seasonal refresh or inventory rotation, not a capital expense.
MY STASH TAKEMost brands announce a redesign and then nothing happens because franchisees or retailers don't want to spend the money. Subway attached it to the remodel cycle—when you're already painting, you're updating to Blueprint. That's the real move. It's not innovation; it's psychology.
WatchWatch for how fast EMEA franchisees adopt Blueprint in early remodels—adoption speed tells you if the design actually drives traffic or just looks better in press.

59% of corporate gift buyers reject generic gifts—Packed with Purpose survey shows

Packed with Purpose's 2026 survey found that 59 percent of corporate gift recipients would rather get nothing than something that feels generic, per Yahoo Finance/Harris Poll data.

ReadingThe steal: corporate gift budgets are massive and mostly waste. 59 percent rejection rate means the incumbent vendors—the big branded object houses—are vulnerable. If you make a physical product, start asking small B2B companies if they want to gift it instead of distributing it through bulk channels. The lever is: 'We'll help you gift this to your top 50 customers, personalized, instead of generic branded merchandise to 500 people.' The mechanism is specificity over scale.
MY STASH TAKEThe corporate gift market is one of the biggest unglamorous buckets in retail—and it's breaking. Brands are tired of giving junk. There's a wedge here for smaller product makers: position yourself as 'the gift that doesn't feel like the gift' instead of fighting for shelf space.

Heineken ditches old brand metrics for novel attention-based measurement on open web

Heineken's in-house team is turning to novel brand metrics—specifically attention-based measurement—to justify digital ad spend on the open web amid budget pressure, per Digiday.

ReadingThe steal: when your budget is under pressure, don't defend spend in old metrics. Invent new ones that show what you actually moved. Heineken shifted from 'reach' to 'attention'—much harder to commoditize. A small brand can do this immediately: measure time-on-page, scroll depth, or dwell time on your own site. Then tell that story to anyone funding you. The mechanism is that novel metrics are harder to compress because they're not yet commoditized.
MY STASH TAKEThis is a power move. When you're defending spend, don't fight on their field. Create a new metric that only makes sense if your campaign is working. Attention is one. You could use engagement-per-dollar, repeat-visitor-rate, or time-between-purchases. The point is to shift the conversation from commodity metrics your competitor can undercut.
WatchWatch for other brands adopting attention-based metrics—it signals a broader shift away from impression-based ROI to perception-based ROI.

Retail media partnerships expand to connect planning, activation, and measurement together

Horizon Commerce and Pacvue expanded their strategic partnership to connect retail media planning, activation, and measurement in one operating system, per MarTech Cube and other sources. IAB and Grocery TV research also found that marketers see a full-funnel role for in-store retail media, though 43 percent underutilize it.

ReadingThe steal: retail media is commoditizing but integration is not. If you're a small brand trying to run in-store ads, don't pick one platform—ask your retailer if they've integrated planning, activation, and measurement into one dashboard. If they haven't, that's your lead: 'We'll help you close the gap.' For brands that sell through multiple retailers, the move is to demand integrated retail media workflows rather than separate vendor touch points.
MY STASH TAKERetail media is the most obvious growth play for brands on shelf, but it's fractured. Marketers underutilize it because they're juggling too many platforms. The brands that push for integration first will be the ones that actually move the needle.
WatchWatch for smaller grocery retailers and regional chains launching their own unified retail media dashboards—integration will be their differentiator.

Agency cut AI-generated campaign from 6 weeks to 4 days—OK Future case

OK Future's AI 'pressure cooker' experiment with Goodwipes compressed production of an AI spoof campaign from six weeks to four days, per Digiday, while exposing burnout risks.

ReadingThe steal: AI isn't about replacing creatives—it's about compressing iteration time. If you need a campaign in 30 days, AI workflow can cut that to 5. Run a test: define the campaign in Monday, iterate Tuesday, pick the direction Wednesday, produce Thursday, ship Friday. The mechanism is that AI kills dead time, not creativity. Use that squeeze to do more tests per quarter, not fewer people.
MY STASH TAKEFour days instead of six weeks is real money. But the Digiday piece hints at the cost: the team was burned out. The move isn't to use this as a staffing play. It's to use it to compress your testing velocity so you can run three campaigns in the time you used to run one. That's the sustainable win.
WatchWatch for agencies starting to offer 'sprint' services—high-velocity, AI-assisted campaigns delivered on a one-week cycle.
