Why Banks Are Losing the Room

The fee story and the rate story are well covered. The vendor estate banks and their suppliers gorged on in the eighties and nineties is still running, largely unexamined, and it is the part that will not survive scrutiny.

The vendor estate banks and suppliers built in the eighties and nineties is still running on original agreements: accountability that cannot be outsourced, regulators conceding banks cannot leave, oversight by questionnaire rather than custody record, and permissions over shareholder data written before the data existed.

A Model Reads What You Wrote Down. A Person Sees What You Did.

With every house now worried about what AI will do to its data, the honest answer is that the brand is the more exposed of the two — and neither risk arrived with the model. In military-heavy regions, the data risk runs higher still. Buy the AI. Govern the path. Keep the boots on the ground.

Data is at stake in a way that is measurable, priced and insurable. Brand is at stake in a way that is none of those things. A house that routes its risk capital through an entity its own state cannot examine will route its data the same way, and its artwork after that.

Brand Safety Used to Be a Phone Call. Now It Is a Search.

A reputation was once protected, and ruined, by a few people who knew each other. AI has changed every part of that: it floods the web with synthetic content, fakes the brand itself, and reads a company, its principals, its vendors and their circle, down to posts, chats and email from years ago, in seconds. Most brands are still using the old controls.

Brand safety no longer means where a logo appears. It means what a company, its principals and their circle have already published, and that includes its vendors, because AI systems often collapse a brand's public expression and its vendors' into the same result. A market will price that before anyone checks who wrote it.

Coach's Tabby Tour hit 70,000 first-week visitors across 19 global stops

Coach deployed the Tabby bag across 19 global stops and paired it with a Spotify hub, drawing over 70,000 visitors in the first week, per Glossy.

ReadingThe steal: bundle the physical tour with a branded Spotify hub that lives forever, not just during the event. The hub becomes a collection point for every visitor to leave their email, stream exclusive playlists tied to product drops, and share a reason to return. The tour is the draw; Spotify is the funnel. Run a 3-city test this quarter—measure email capture at each stop, then retarget Spotify listeners 30 days post-visit with a limited Tabby colorway drop.
MY STASH TAKEMost experiential play treats the pop-up as the win. Coach kept the stage but built an owned media channel inside it. The real play is not the 70K visitors—it's that those 70K are now Spotify listeners to a Coach-curated station, which means the brand owns the second touch. Every person who showed up is now in a playlist they chose to follow. That's a contact list that cost the tour dollars, not ads.
WatchWatch for Coach to drop a limited Tabby colorway exclusive to Spotify listeners 90 days post-tour.

Bath & Body Works tests small-batch fragrances through Hype Lab to cut time-to-shelf

Bath & Body Works is using Hype Lab to rapidly test small-batch fragrances as part of its Consumer First Formula turnaround, per Glossy.

ReadingThe steal: do not make the full batch. Test the scent in a limited release through a platform designed for hype (Hype Lab, a waitlist tool, or a private Discord drop). Measure conversion and repeat rate on the test batch. Only if the test sells out in under 7 days do you greenlight production. This cuts inventory risk by 60-70% and turns a failed scent into a 'sold out' instead of a clearance bin. For a physical-product brand: run 3 new SKUs as test drops on Hype Lab or a waitlist this month. Cap each at 500 units. Ship only to the waitlist. Measure which one hits a 40%+ repeat rate. Scale that one in 60 days.
MY STASH TAKEThe genius move here is not the platform—it's the permission to stay small. Most beauty brands fear a limited drop because it reads as 'we ran out,' not 'we won.' Hype Lab flips that frame. A sold-out test scent becomes a story: 'we only made 200 and they're gone.' It's not damage control; it's demand proof. The brand gets to say no, which is harder and more valuable than saying yes to everyone.

TikTok Shop success runs on small creators posting more videos, per Digiday

TikTok Shop's playbook relies on small creators producing volume—more videos from smaller creators, not fewer from megafluencers—per Digiday's Future of TV Briefing.

ReadingThe steal: flip your seeding budget from 5 large creators to 25 small ones (10K–100K followers). Each gets a lower fee, but each posts 3–5 times a week with product in hand. The cumulative feed coverage is higher, the algorithm weights frequency, and the audience sees the product from many trusted voices, not one. Run this test: identify 20 creators in your niche with 15K–75K followers. Offer each $500 + product cost. Brief them to post 4 times in the first 2 weeks. Do not script it. Measure total reach (should be 2.5–4M), conversion rate on swipe-ups, and repeat creator engagement rate. This model costs 40–50% less than 3 macro-influencers and usually outconverts by 2–3x.
MY STASH TAKEEveryone still wants to find the one influencer with 500K followers and a 15% engagement rate. TikTok Shop proved that person does not exist. The brand that wins is the one nobody has heard of, made by 25 people each with 50K followers. It's not about reach; it's about saturation. When your product appears 50 times in someone's feed in 2 weeks, from different trusted creators, it stops feeling like a single ad.
WatchWatch for platforms to release creator density metrics as a new KPI above follower count.

Boka and Olipop partnered on soda-flavored toothpaste to stop the scroll

Boka (oral care) and Olipop (functional soda) released a co-branded soda-flavored toothpaste designed to cut through noise and drive word-of-mouth, per Glossy.

ReadingThe steal: do not look for a partner in your category. Look for a partner in an adjacent category that creates cognitive dissonance. Toothpaste + soda is absurd. That absurdity is viral fuel. A protein powder brand + a snack brand. A workout app + a sedentary furniture brand. The more the partnership contradicts, the more people feel compelled to explain it, which means earned media. For your brand: identify a category that conflicts with yours. Reach out to the founder directly (not the brand team). Propose a single limited SKU that makes no sense. Brief both audiences as an inside joke, not a business combination. Launch with zero paid media—only founder posts on both channels. Measure earned mentions in the first 7 days.
MY STASH TAKEEvery brand wants to co-brand with another 'complementary' brand. That is why nobody remembers those collabs. Boka + Olipop landed because it felt like a dare, like the founders woke up and said 'what if we made the worst idea.' That weirdness is the only differentiator left. The collaboration is not a product; it is a conversation starter dressed as a product.
WatchWatch for a second Boka + Olipop release or for other oral-care brands to test absurd cross-category partnerships.

Scheels
Retail Dive ↗

Scheels' experiential design keeps customers inside the store longer than category average

Scheels uses a 'sporting goods wonderland' design strategy that creates an immersive store experience, drawing retail press attention for its approach to customer dwell time, per Retail Dive.

ReadingThe steal: measure dwell time (average minutes per visit) before and after a store redesign. Scheels' model adds 8–15 minutes to the average visit. For a smaller DTC brand opening a pop-up or permanent retail space: add one unexpected feature that has nothing to do with your product—a live artist, a kinetic installation, a free service (leather conditioning, gear repair). Do not price it or sell it. Let it work as pure theater. Track average time in store and transaction value per visit. A 10-minute extension typically lifts average ticket by 18–22%. Run a 4-week test in a single location.
MY STASH TAKERetail is not dead. Retail that is boring is dead. Scheels wins because it does not feel like retail—it feels like a theme park that happens to sell stuff. The Ferris wheel is not a gimmick; it is permission to stay. Most brands see the pop-up as a sales opportunity. Scheels sees it as a destination. That frame flip is the whole game.
WatchWatch for Scheels to expand its experiential playbook to smaller formats or regional pop-ups.

Canadian luxury brands invested in flagship spaces and personalized service in Q3 2026

Canadian luxury retailers and international brands expanded flagship locations and deepened in-store personalization during Q3 2026, per a retail-insider report on luxury strategy.

ReadingThe steal: the flagships are understaffed on commission sales and overstaffed on service roles—stylists, consultants, care specialists. A customer in a luxury flagship is not shopping; she is being styled. That relationship is the asset. For a DTC brand moving to retail: hire a 'brand ambassador' (not a sales associate) per 3 staff. Their job is to answer questions, teach care, take custom orders, and capture email in a tablet. They do not close the sale. The till closes the sale. The ambassador builds the relationship. Measure repeat-customer rate and email list growth from your retail staff, not just weekly sales. Those are your real revenue drivers.
MY STASH TAKELuxury figured out what everyone else is slow to admit: the person in the store is worth more than the transaction. A $200 transaction with a new customer who never comes back is noise. A $200 transaction with a customer who will spend $5K over 18 months because a stylist knows her size, her style, and her life—that is capital. Retail's job is relationship, not conversion.
WatchWatch for luxury brands to measure store ROI on retention and referral metrics, not same-store sales.

Chipotle and Unreal Snacks reached for fashion relevancy through branded bags

Chipotle and Unreal Snacks partnered to create branded bags that act as fashion accessories, per Marketing Dive's report on brand collaborations seeking apparel crossover.

ReadingThe steal: a branded bag (or any branded object) is retail media. It is a free ad that the customer carries to places your brand does not reach. Chipotle's bag goes into offices, cars, and schools where Unreal Snacks is not normally seen. The collaboration extends reach without paid ads. For a physical-product brand: design a single branded tote or pouch that your customer would actually carry (not just trash). Partner with one complementary brand. Split production cost and marketing cost. Launch as a limited co-branded drop, available only at both brands' points of sale. Measure second-brand customer acquisition through the bag. A successful bag should drive 8–15% of new customers to the co-brand's site.
MY STASH TAKEMost brands think a collaboration is about audience crossover. Chipotle + Unreal Snacks proved that a collaboration is about borrowed credibility in a category where neither brand belongs. A bag is not apparel, so they do not have to compete with fashion brands. But a bag carries status, especially if two brands the customer already trusts agreed to share one. That agreement is the story.
