Why Banks Are Losing the Room

The fee story and the rate story are well covered. The vendor estate banks and their suppliers gorged on in the eighties and nineties is still running, largely unexamined, and it is the part that will not survive scrutiny.

The vendor estate banks and suppliers built in the eighties and nineties is still running on original agreements: accountability that cannot be outsourced, regulators conceding banks cannot leave, oversight by questionnaire rather than custody record, and permissions over shareholder data written before the data existed.

A Model Reads What You Wrote Down. A Person Sees What You Did.

With every house now worried about what AI will do to its data, the honest answer is that the brand is the more exposed of the two — and neither risk arrived with the model. In military-heavy regions, the data risk runs higher still. Buy the AI. Govern the path. Keep the boots on the ground.

Data is at stake in a way that is measurable, priced and insurable. Brand is at stake in a way that is none of those things. A house that routes its risk capital through an entity its own state cannot examine will route its data the same way, and its artwork after that.

Brand Safety Used to Be a Phone Call. Now It Is a Search.

A reputation was once protected, and ruined, by a few people who knew each other. AI has changed every part of that: it floods the web with synthetic content, fakes the brand itself, and reads a company, its principals, its vendors and their circle, down to posts, chats and email from years ago, in seconds. Most brands are still using the old controls.

Brand safety no longer means where a logo appears. It means what a company, its principals and their circle have already published, and that includes its vendors, because AI systems often collapse a brand's public expression and its vendors' into the same result. A market will price that before anyone checks who wrote it.

Coach's Tabby Tour drew 70,000 first-week visitors across Spotify hub

Coach built a 19-stop global Tabby Tour and anchored it with a Spotify hub that logged over 70,000 first-week visitors, per Glossy.

ReadingThe steal: tie a physical tour to a streaming platform so the event lives online permanently and scales beyond venue capacity. Coach did not just run 19 stops; they built a Spotify hub as the persistent version of the tour. Week one alone logged 70,000 visitors. A brand can replicate this by anchoring a 3-5 stop regional tour to a Spotify playlist, YouTube series, or TikTok account that ships before the first venue opens. The playlist or series becomes the media buy that reaches 10x the foot traffic.
WatchWatch for Coach to measure repeat streaming visitors against physical ticket holders and segment follow-up email by engagement tier.

Bath & Body Works tests small-batch fragrances via Hype Lab to compress test cycles

Bath & Body Works launched Hype Lab to test new small-batch fragrances as part of its Consumer First Formula turnaround, per Glossy.

ReadingThe steal: use a dedicated testing platform for SKU validation instead of relying on retail to absorb the inventory risk. Bath & Body Works decoupled testing from full-store rollout. A brand with 50+ SKUs can run 10 Hype Lab batches in parallel, measure velocity and repeat-purchase on each, and only scale the winners. This is not a waitlist; it is a pre-production filter that keeps only proven winners in the store.
WatchWatch for Hype Lab to publish velocity or repeat-rate winners and which fragrances make the jump from test to full shelf.

Lowe's built a full-funnel retail media network and established measurement framework

Lowe's is developing a full-funnel media network with a comprehensive measurement approach, per Marketing Dive.

ReadingThe steal: if you are selling physical products wholesale into a major retailer, ask for their full-funnel measurement framework before you buy the shelf media. Lowe's measures impact on traffic, conversion, and AOV separately. Most brands treat retail media as a black box. Insist on a dashboard that tracks the path from ad impression to register. This turns a media buy into a retention asset—you own the data on what actually moved product.
WatchWatch for Lowe's to publish anonymized category benchmarks showing which in-store media placements drive highest transaction lift.

Boka and Olipop partnered on soda-flavored toothpaste to interrupt scrolling behavior

Boka and Olipop collaborated on a limited-edition soda-flavored toothpaste designed to arrest attention in social feeds, per Glossy.

ReadingThe steal: a partnership that produces one object nobody has seen before is cheaper than a six-figure paid ad and more memorable. Boka and Olipop did not expand their core line; they created a narrative moment. A brand can replicate this by finding one complementary DTC brand in an adjacent category and shipping a single SKU that makes no logical sense but makes perfect sense to both audiences. Announce it on TikTok and email. The product becomes the ad.
WatchWatch for resale price on secondary platforms and whether the co-brand drives trial of Boka or Olipop core lines.

Beauty products dominated 73% of TikTok Shop Japan's top 10, facial device at 82.5 million yen

In September 2026, beauty accounted for 7 of 10 best-selling products on TikTok Shop Japan, with the #1 facial device reaching 82.5 million yen in sales, per Note.

ReadingThe steal: if you sell beauty or personal-care devices, TikTok Shop Japan is the floor, not a test. The top device hit 82.5 million yen in one month on a platform most Western brands still treat as a social feed. The category concentration means you are not competing against all CPG—you are competing against other beauty devices. Test a TikTok Shop listing before you negotiate a retail partnership or warehouse expansion.
WatchWatch for the same facial device brand to appear in multiple weeks and whether live sales participation grows past 43% as a category average.

43% of marketers underutilize in-store retail media, though all see full-funnel potential

A joint IAB and Grocery TV study found that while marketers recognize in-store retail media's role across the full funnel, 43 percent admit they are not fully using it, per Supermarket News and The Shelby Report.

ReadingThe steal: if you sell CPG into grocers, 43 percent of your competitors are not bidding on in-store media even though they acknowledge it works. This is open inventory. Pitch your CPG brand's retail media spend directly to your distributor or the grocer's media team, not just the category buyer. Most brands wait for permission; ask for the media kit first.
WatchWatch for the IAB or Grocery TV to publish benchmarks showing which in-store placements (endcap, shelf digital, register) drive highest basket lift.

Subscription churn peaks by box three; retention agencies now specializing in skip behavior

Industry research and retention specialists indicate that subscription retention reaches a critical breaking point by the third shipment, with skipped orders now recognized as costlier than outright cancellations, per Retail Insider and retention agencies cited in coverage.

ReadingThe steal: if you run a subscription box, build email sequences around skip-order recovery before you build churn recovery. A customer who skips month three is salvageable if you trigger the right offer within 48 hours. Offer a one-time discount on the skipped month or a free bonus item in the next shipment. Most brands do nothing, and the skip becomes a cancel. Retention agencies now specialize in this middle state because it is cheaper than re-acquiring a cancelled customer.
WatchWatch for subscription brands to report skip-order volume separately from churn and for retention agencies to publish skip-to-reactivate rates.
