Why Banks Are Losing the Room

The fee story and the rate story are well covered. The vendor estate banks and their suppliers gorged on in the eighties and nineties is still running, largely unexamined, and it is the part that will not survive scrutiny.

The vendor estate banks and suppliers built in the eighties and nineties is still running on original agreements: accountability that cannot be outsourced, regulators conceding banks cannot leave, oversight by questionnaire rather than custody record, and permissions over shareholder data written before the data existed.

A Model Reads What You Wrote Down. A Person Sees What You Did.

With every house now worried about what AI will do to its data, the honest answer is that the brand is the more exposed of the two — and neither risk arrived with the model. In military-heavy regions, the data risk runs higher still. Buy the AI. Govern the path. Keep the boots on the ground.

Data is at stake in a way that is measurable, priced and insurable. Brand is at stake in a way that is none of those things. A house that routes its risk capital through an entity its own state cannot examine will route its data the same way, and its artwork after that.

Brand Safety Used to Be a Phone Call. Now It Is a Search.

A reputation was once protected, and ruined, by a few people who knew each other. AI has changed every part of that: it floods the web with synthetic content, fakes the brand itself, and reads a company, its principals, its vendors and their circle, down to posts, chats and email from years ago, in seconds. Most brands are still using the old controls.

Brand safety no longer means where a logo appears. It means what a company, its principals and their circle have already published, and that includes its vendors, because AI systems often collapse a brand's public expression and its vendors' into the same result. A market will price that before anyone checks who wrote it.

Coach Tabby Tour draws 70,000 first-week visitors via Spotify hub

Coach launched a 19-stop global Tabby Tour paired with a Spotify hub, attracting over 70,000 visitors in the first week, per Glossy.

ReadingThe steal: pair physical stops with a digital anchor (streaming, playlist, hub) so the tour works offline and online. The Spotify hub isn't extra—it's the reason the first week hit 70K. Run 19 stops. Name it. Pre-announce it. Let streamers and creators pre-camp the hub. The tour becomes the proof; the hub becomes the reach.
MY STASH TAKEMost brands think tour = logistics. Coach built a platform. The Spotify hub is the hidden lever—it's how you turn 19 physical stops into a cultural event that moves before the first door opens. Creators are mapping it, playlists are priming it, first-week foot traffic proves the bet worked. This is how a single bag model stays top-of-mind for Gen Z without a celebrity drop.
WatchWatch for Coach announcing repeat Tabby stops in 2027 or a second regional tour using the same Spotify-anchored model.

Lowe's builds full-funnel retail media network with documented measurement

Lowe's is constructing a comprehensive retail media network and establishing measurement protocols across the full funnel, per Marketing Dive.

ReadingThe steal: retail media only works if you measure across the funnel—not just last-click. Lowe's is documenting top-of-funnel lift, mid-funnel engagement, and conversion. That measurement model becomes your moat. Brands will pay more to a retailer that proves upper-funnel impact. Start by tracking: ad impression → in-store foot traffic → category lift → repeat purchase. Don't measure media—measure the full chain.
MY STASH TAKERetail media is table stakes now. The brands winning are the ones measuring it like a media company, not a checkout charity. Lowe's is ahead because they're proving that in-store placement moves awareness, not just last-touch transactions. Most retailers still think retail media = discounted digital ads on their site. Lowe's is building the infrastructure to prove otherwise.

Hint water launches dessert flavors as a new-customer acquisition lever

Hint is releasing a limited-edition 'Treat Yourself' pack of dessert-inspired, zero-calorie waters to recruit customers outside its base, per Modern Retail.

ReadingThe steal: limited-edition flavors work as customer acquisition because they feel like events, not just new inventory. Drop a 'Treat Yourself' pack for 8 weeks. Price it at parity, not discount. Use it to move trial into repeat. The new customer who enters on the dessert flavor is now on your email list and your repeat cycle. After the drop ends, they migrate to year-round SKUs. This is a funnel move, not a product move.
MY STASH TAKEMost brands think limited edition is scarcity marketing. Hint is using it as a customer pipeline tool. The dessert flavors aren't for existing Hint drinkers—they're for the mainstream consumer who thinks functional water is boring. Once they're in the trial, they're in the funnel. It's cheaper to own them through a flavor cycle than to keep spending on awareness.
WatchWatch for Hint announcing repeat-purchase rates on the Treat Yourself customers after the pack runs out.

Kids' brand Monica + Andy enters baby care within a decade of launch

Monica + Andy, a kids' clothing brand, is expanding into baby care after more than a decade, per Modern Retail.

ReadingThe steal: when your customer base has moved up-market and trusts your brand, expand into a higher-frequency adjacent category. Monica + Andy's customer is now a parent who buys more often and spends year-round on baby needs. This is a retention play disguised as growth. You're not acquiring new customers—you're increasing wallet share with the ones who already trust you. Launch in the same channels and use the same customer list.
MY STASH TAKEThis is the unglamorous expansion nobody talks about. Monica + Andy isn't chasing trend. They're taking their customer—a parent with disposable income who trusts their quality—and moving into a category they buy constantly. Baby care is boring. But it's where the repeat lives. This is how single-category DTC brands become multi-category platforms.

Bath & Body Works tests small-batch fragrances via Hype Lab platform

Bath & Body Works is running small-batch fragrance tests through Hype Lab as part of its Consumer First Formula turnaround, per Glossy.

ReadingThe steal: use a third-party testing or launch platform (Hype Lab, similar models) to run 500-unit batches instead of 5,000-unit SKUs. You get real demand signals, social proof, and FOMO. When a test converts, you expand. When it doesn't, you move to the next batch. This is how mature CPG brands move like DTC startups—small batches, rapid iteration, no guessing.
MY STASH TAKEBath & Body Works used to lock product for 6 months. Now they're testing in batches. The Hype Lab partnership lets them feel like a startup within a 1,000-store footprint. That's the real win here. They're not abandoning retail. They're making retail feel like a lab.

Boka and Olipop co-brand soda-flavored toothpaste to interrupt scrolling

Boka and Olipop partnered on a soda-flavored toothpaste designed to cut through social noise, per Glossy.

ReadingThe steal: two complementary DTC brands can co-create a single SKU that neither could justify alone. The collaboration splits production risk and doubles the audience. The novelty is the entire marketing budget. Soda-flavored toothpaste doesn't need paid ads; it needs creators who find it weird enough to post. Price it at a premium. Make it limited. Let the oddness do the work.
MY STASH TAKEThis is the move smaller DTC brands are missing. You don't have the budget to compete for scroll. But you can partner with a brand in an adjacent category and create something nobody expected. The collaboration becomes the story. The oddness is the moat.

Smart cart solution launches to reshape in-store retail experience

Hanshow, Shopreme, and Lucky Cart unveiled a new Smart Cart solution designed to enhance the shopping experience and drive retail growth, per PR Newswire.

ReadingThe steal: smart carts capture in-cart behavior in real time. That data informs real-time shelf placement and bundling decisions. Watch for brands to pay premium shelf placement based on cart-velocity signals, not just store agreement. The cart becomes the testing ground for what moves together.
MY STASH TAKEThis is early, but worth watching. If smart carts capture cart composition data and feed it back to retail operations, the game shifts. Shelf placement moves from politics to data. Brands with fast-moving combos get priority. It's the beginning of dynamic retail.
WatchWatch for pilot retailers announcing cart data and real-time shelf optimizations powered by the Smart Cart system.
