Why Banks Are Losing the Room

The fee story and the rate story are well covered. The vendor estate banks and their suppliers gorged on in the eighties and nineties is still running, largely unexamined, and it is the part that will not survive scrutiny.

The vendor estate banks and suppliers built in the eighties and nineties is still running on original agreements: accountability that cannot be outsourced, regulators conceding banks cannot leave, oversight by questionnaire rather than custody record, and permissions over shareholder data written before the data existed.

A Model Reads What You Wrote Down. A Person Sees What You Did.

With every house now worried about what AI will do to its data, the honest answer is that the brand is the more exposed of the two — and neither risk arrived with the model. In military-heavy regions, the data risk runs higher still. Buy the AI. Govern the path. Keep the boots on the ground.

Data is at stake in a way that is measurable, priced and insurable. Brand is at stake in a way that is none of those things. A house that routes its risk capital through an entity its own state cannot examine will route its data the same way, and its artwork after that.

Brand Safety Used to Be a Phone Call. Now It Is a Search.

A reputation was once protected, and ruined, by a few people who knew each other. AI has changed every part of that: it floods the web with synthetic content, fakes the brand itself, and reads a company, its principals, its vendors and their circle, down to posts, chats and email from years ago, in seconds. Most brands are still using the old controls.

Brand safety no longer means where a logo appears. It means what a company, its principals and their circle have already published, and that includes its vendors, because AI systems often collapse a brand's public expression and its vendors' into the same result. A market will price that before anyone checks who wrote it.

Target stocks TikTok-native brands like Mellow Sleep to revamp home category

Target added TikTok-favorite bedding brand Mellow Sleep and other buzzy brands to its home category to help revive sales, per Modern Retail.

ReadingThe steal: do not wait for a brand to prove itself at three distribution points before you stock it. Identify the brand that has real engagement on TikTok (not just follower count — look at comments, saves, shares) and pitch the buyer with the social proof already loaded. The brand carries the audience with it into the store. You are not selling the product; you are selling the crowd that already wants it. Target is cashing in on the work the creator did for free. Run this: find five TikTok home brands with 5M+ views on a single product video, pull the engagement metrics, and email your buyer a one-page with the TikTok link and the metrics. Let the algorithm do the selling.
WatchWatch for Target to expand this model into apparel and beauty, or for competitors to flood TikTok searching for the next Mellow Sleep before it hits the shelf.

Ruggable pulls Meta ad spend, pivots to ShopMy creator network instead

Ruggable is reallocating ad dollars out of Meta and into ShopMy creators ahead of a potential IPO, per Digiday.

ReadingThe steal: do not rent an audience on Meta. Rent the creator who already owns one. ShopMy and platforms like it let creators earn commission on sales to their own audience — the creator is now your sales arm, not your audience broker. The creator has skin in the close. Move budget from CPM (cost per thousand impressions) to CPS (cost per sale through the creator's link). You are not buying reach; you are buying conversion. To run this: identify 10 creators in your category with 50K–500K followers who post product authentically. Reach out with a ShopMy commission offer (15–25% is standard). Give them a unique code or link. Track every sale back to that creator. This scales faster than paid ads and costs zero dollars until the sale lands.
WatchWatch for other DTC brands to abandon Meta for creator-owned platforms, or for Meta to launch a creator-commission layer to compete.

Bogg moves beyond beach bag with Go Tote to capture commuters, athletes

Bogg is diversifying beyond its signature EVA beach bag with a new Go Tote, targeting commuters, athletes and travelers, per Modern Retail.

ReadingThe steal: your signature product is your proof of concept, not your ceiling. Once you own the original use case, own the adjacent use case with the same material and ethos — same brand grammar, new occasion. Bogg did not invent a new material; it applied the same EVA durability to a shape that fits a different job. Run this: audit your hero product. List the occasions where a customer almost buys it but doesn't because the form factor is wrong. Design one new shape that solves that occasion. Use the same material, the same color story, the same visual language. Launch it as a sibling, not a replacement. You are not cannibalizing; you are giving customers a reason to buy twice.
WatchWatch for Bogg to test a smaller, backpack-style carry or a high-end collaboration line using the same EVA base.

E.l.f. returns to metaverse on avatar gaming platform to reach players

E.l.f. Cosmetics is re-entering the metaverse via an avatar-based gaming platform, per Marketing Dive.

ReadingThe steal: do not sell the physical product in the metaverse. Sell the idea of the product to the person who curates their digital identity. Avatar cosmetics are worn socially — your friends see them in-game. This is a status layer. The player buys the digital cosmetic, and that becomes a vector for community and identity, not impulse beauty. To run this: identify the gaming platform where your audience spends time (Fortnite, Roblox, VRChat). Approach the platform with a cosmetics skin for avatars. Price it low (USD 3–5) to encourage impulse adoption. The conversion is not a beauty sale; it is a social statement. Measure success not by revenue but by cumulative player count wearing your cosmetics — that is your reach.
WatchWatch for E.l.f. to test limited-edition avatar cosmetics tied to seasonal product launches, or for competitor brands to flood avatar cosmetics platforms.

Wendy's sponsors Bravo in-app fan experience as first brand partner

Wendy's signed on as the first sponsor for Bravo's in-app fan experience, per Marketing Dive.

ReadingThe steal: the first brand in a fan app gets disproportionate mindshare and reduced noise. Competitors will follow, but the first sponsor becomes the canonical brand in that community. To run this: identify fan communities around content your audience already loves (subreddits, Discord servers, Twitch streams, TikTok niches, official fan apps). Approach the platform owner or community leader with a sponsorship offer before competitors do. Offer small perks — discount codes, early access to new products, exclusive drops. Be the first. Measure by community sentiment and retention, not impressions. You own the space longer than your media budget lasts.
WatchWatch for Wendy's to expand this model to other Bravo shows or for competitors to outbid for in-app sponsorships on high-engagement fan platforms.

Canadian luxury flagships invest in space and personalized service during Q3 2026

Canadian luxury retailers and international brands invested heavily in flagship properties and personalized service experiences during Q3 2026, per Retail Insider.

ReadingThe steal: luxury does not scale online — it scales through gatekeeping and personalization. The flagship is the front door. If you are a physical-product brand positioned at premium (not mass), invest in one flagship location before you build multiple. That one location teaches your team how to serve the customer who will buy at full price. Everything about that space — the lighting, the greeting, the time the associate takes — becomes your brand's operational standard. Run this: choose your flagship location in a high-traffic luxury district. Hire one exceptional associate or partner with a stylist. Document every customer interaction. Make that one store the proof of concept for premium service. Then tell that story everywhere — social, email, your site. The flagship becomes your brand origin story. Customers travel to experience it and expect that standard everywhere.
WatchWatch for luxury brands to use their flagships as content studios, filming brand stories and behind-the-scenes service moments for social distribution.

Social commerce outpaces SEO-driven commerce for first time at The Independent

The Independent reported that social-commerce revenue edged past SEO-driven commerce revenue for the first time in September, per CEO Christian Broughton at Digiday's conference.

ReadingThe steal: if you are a physical-product brand, social commerce is no longer a channel to test — it is the channel your competitor is already running. Platforms like Instagram Shop, TikTok Shop, and Pinterest Buyable Pins are outperforming Google organic. The message: invest in social-first product photography (vertical, short, focused on the product, not the lifestyle). Tag prices in TikTok videos. Run affiliate links on Pinterest. Set up Instagram Shop early. You are not competing on search keywords anymore; you are competing on the scroll. The customer does not come to social searching for your product — they discover it in a feed or a video and buy it without leaving the app.
WatchWatch for more publishers and brands to report social-commerce revenue surpassing paid search or email revenue.
