Why Banks Are Losing the Room

The fee story and the rate story are well covered. The vendor estate banks and their suppliers gorged on in the eighties and nineties is still running, largely unexamined, and it is the part that will not survive scrutiny.

The vendor estate banks and suppliers built in the eighties and nineties is still running on original agreements: accountability that cannot be outsourced, regulators conceding banks cannot leave, oversight by questionnaire rather than custody record, and permissions over shareholder data written before the data existed.

A Model Reads What You Wrote Down. A Person Sees What You Did.

With every house now worried about what AI will do to its data, the honest answer is that the brand is the more exposed of the two — and neither risk arrived with the model. In military-heavy regions, the data risk runs higher still. Buy the AI. Govern the path. Keep the boots on the ground.

Data is at stake in a way that is measurable, priced and insurable. Brand is at stake in a way that is none of those things. A house that routes its risk capital through an entity its own state cannot examine will route its data the same way, and its artwork after that.

Brand Safety Used to Be a Phone Call. Now It Is a Search.

A reputation was once protected, and ruined, by a few people who knew each other. AI has changed every part of that: it floods the web with synthetic content, fakes the brand itself, and reads a company, its principals, its vendors and their circle, down to posts, chats and email from years ago, in seconds. Most brands are still using the old controls.

Brand safety no longer means where a logo appears. It means what a company, its principals and their circle have already published, and that includes its vendors, because AI systems often collapse a brand's public expression and its vendors' into the same result. A market will price that before anyone checks who wrote it.

Pulled ad spend from Meta, shifted budget to ShopMy creators ahead of IPO

Ruggable is reallocating marketing dollars away from Meta and toward ShopMy creators, a move tied to preparation for a potential IPO, per Digiday.

ReadingThe steal: stop buying placements from platforms and start funding creators who already have intent-driven audiences. Ruggable's move signals that direct-creator spend beats algorithmic ads at scale. Test this week: find 10 creators in your category with >50k followers who use shop-able links, send them product for 30 days, track order source code tied to their profiles only, and measure CAC against your Meta baseline. You'll likely see 40-60% lower acquisition cost and higher repeat rate because the creator's credibility fronts the trust work.
WatchWatch for other DTC home brands to follow; this pattern often spreads within category verticals before going wide.

Social commerce revenue outpaced SEO-based revenue for the first time in September

The Independent's social-commerce revenue edged past its SEO-based commerce revenue in September for the first time, per CEO Christian Broughton at Digiday's Marketing Leadership Conference.

ReadingThe steal: your SEO ranking is no longer where the checkout lives. Publish the same product review or comparison in two formats: one for Google (long-form, keyword density, backlinks) and one for social (short, visual, shoppable, posted daily to TikTok/Insta/Threads). The social version will outconvert the SEO version because social audiences are mid-scroll and have low friction to add-to-cart. Track which format drove the higher AOV and repeat-buyer rate. Most publishers still optimize for SEO first; social-first teams are taking the margin.
WatchWatch for publisher networks to hire social-native writers and for affiliate programs to introduce shoppable social templates.

Signed as first sponsor for in-app Bravo fan experience

Wendy's became the inaugural sponsor for Bravo's in-app fan experience, marking a shift toward sponsor-owned digital moments within creator and entertainment platforms, per Marketing Dive.

ReadingThe steal: sponsor the container, not an ad slot inside it. When you sponsor the whole experience—a tournament, a watching party, a fan voting moment—the brand becomes part of the cultural moment, not a side panel. Run this: find one TikTok creator or YouTube channel with a weekly show in your category, sponsor three episodes (not ads, the whole show), and rebrand their intro and outro with your product. Track brand recall and intent lift from their audience. You'll own the context instead of competing for attention within the feed.
WatchWatch for QSR brands to sponsor entire social-media features, and for Bravo to tier pricing for category exclusivity.

Expanded partnership to all Ulta stores for the holidays

Bath & Body Works expanded its partnership with Ulta Beauty across all Ulta store locations for the holiday season, per Retail Dive.

ReadingThe steal: don't open a new store—put your product in an existing retailer's high-traffic moment. Bath & Body Works gains holiday foot traffic through Ulta's promotional calendar without media spend. Run this: identify one high-traffic retailer in an adjacent category, propose a limited holiday partnership (not year-round yet) at three pilot locations, measure attach rate and holiday conversion lift, then expand if AOV holds. The cost is wholesale margin and some merchandising support; the gain is credibility, traffic, and repeat customer acquisition.
WatchWatch for Bath & Body Works to introduce exclusive SKUs for Ulta or to anchor seasonal pop-ups within Ulta stores.

Hired ex-Papa Johns CMO to balance brand-building with sales growth

Arby's appointed Jenna Bromberg, former CMO of Papa Johns, effective Nov. 2, as the company prepares for a potential IPO under parent Inspire Brands, per Marketing Dive.

ReadingThe steal: hire for the story you need to tell in the next chapter, not just the metrics you hit last year. Before you hire a marketer, define what story you need to own in the next 18 months. Is it sustainability? Founder narrative? Category innovation? Then hire someone whose previous role proved they can build that story at scale. Bromberg's track record means Arby's is not optimizing for one quarter; it's building a narrative that survives due diligence and investor questions.
WatchWatch for Arby's to launch a brand repositioning campaign or documentary-style content in Q1 2025.

Sponsorships and creator partnerships displace traditional paid media budgets

Across Advertising Week New York 2026, brands including Smirnoff, Liquid Death, and Chili's emphasized AI, cultural connection, and creator economy participation over traditional paid advertising, per Marketing Dive.

ReadingThe steal: track your ad spend by trust velocity, not impression cost. A dollar spent on Meta can reach 10,000 people but convert at 0.3%. A dollar sent to a creator as product seeding can reach 2,000 people but convert at 3–5% because the recommendation carries credibility. Test this: spend $5,000 on Meta ads for your product category. Spend $5,000 on seeding 50 micro-creators (100 each) with your product and a unique code. Measure cost per acquisition and repeat rate. The seeding cohort will show 60–70% lower CAC. Shift the next $5,000 budget to whichever channel won. Most brands don't run this comparison; they assume paid reach equals paid efficiency.
WatchWatch for creator partnerships to get formal contracts and exclusivity clauses, signaling that brand-creator relationships are becoming a protected asset class.

Returned to San Francisco retail market after prior exit

Nordstrom Rack opened a new store in San Francisco, marking the brand's return to a market it had previously left, per Retail Dive.

ReadingThe steal: watch off-price retail expansions as economic sentiment indicators. When discount retailers expand back into high-rent urban markets, it signals consumer discretionary spending is recovering and lease rates are stabilizing. If you're a product brand seeking retail placement, this is the moment to pitch: retailers are investing in new doors and need fresh categories. Pitch Nordstrom Rack buyers now with a 90-day exclusive if they'll give you a pilot in this new SF location.
WatchWatch for Nordstrom Rack to announce additional urban market openings in Q1 2025.
