Why Banks Are Losing the Room

The fee story and the rate story are well covered. The vendor estate banks and their suppliers gorged on in the eighties and nineties is still running, largely unexamined, and it is the part that will not survive scrutiny.

The vendor estate banks and suppliers built in the eighties and nineties is still running on original agreements: accountability that cannot be outsourced, regulators conceding banks cannot leave, oversight by questionnaire rather than custody record, and permissions over shareholder data written before the data existed.

A Model Reads What You Wrote Down. A Person Sees What You Did.

With every house now worried about what AI will do to its data, the honest answer is that the brand is the more exposed of the two — and neither risk arrived with the model. In military-heavy regions, the data risk runs higher still. Buy the AI. Govern the path. Keep the boots on the ground.

Data is at stake in a way that is measurable, priced and insurable. Brand is at stake in a way that is none of those things. A house that routes its risk capital through an entity its own state cannot examine will route its data the same way, and its artwork after that.

Brand Safety Used to Be a Phone Call. Now It Is a Search.

A reputation was once protected, and ruined, by a few people who knew each other. AI has changed every part of that: it floods the web with synthetic content, fakes the brand itself, and reads a company, its principals, its vendors and their circle, down to posts, chats and email from years ago, in seconds. Most brands are still using the old controls.

Brand safety no longer means where a logo appears. It means what a company, its principals and their circle have already published, and that includes its vendors, because AI systems often collapse a brand's public expression and its vendors' into the same result. A market will price that before anyone checks who wrote it.

Limited Nintendo Switch 2 console sell-out at midnight launch, Nov 5

Best Buy announced midnight launch events on November 5, 2026, for limited quantities of the Zelda 40th Anniversary Nintendo Switch 2 console, per MSN News.

ReadingThe steal: a midnight launch event is a forced-scarcity multiplier. It creates two pressures at once — FOMO on the product AND FOMO on the event window. You cannot buy this at 6am Tuesday. It exists for four hours on one night. For physical product brands, replicate this: announce the exact date-time window, name the limited quantity (even if it is 500 units), and tie it to a cultural moment (anniversary, season, holiday tie-in). The event IS the ad. You do not need to spend on reach; the scarcity spend is zero. The media cost is the retailers enforcing the gate.

Pulled Meta spend, shifted budget to ShopMy creators ahead of IPO

Ruggable is reallocating ad spend away from Meta and into ShopMy creators as part of its pre-IPO marketing strategy, per Digiday.

ReadingThe steal: do not ask whether you should be on ShopMy or TikTok or Meta. Ask which channel gives you the lowest cost per transaction and the highest repeat rate. Ruggable's move says: ShopMy creators (likely taking a commission cut, not a flat fee) are delivering tighter attribution and higher retention than Meta's algorithm. Run a test: allocate 10 percent of your monthly ad budget to five ShopMy creators in your category. Measure repeat-purchase rate at 90 days against your Meta cohort. If the repeat rate is higher, reallocate another 20 percent next month. The lever is not the platform; it is the commission-based incentive alignment.
WatchWatch for Ruggable's IPO filing to cite creator channel contribution to revenue.

Expanded partnership to all Ulta stores for holiday season

Bath & Body Works expanded its partnership with Ulta Beauty to include all Ulta locations for the holidays, per Retail Dive.

ReadingThe steal: before you open a pop-up or a temporary store, map where your customer already goes. Find a retailer that shares 70 percent of your buyer profile but does not compete with your core offering. Negotiate a shelf placement or a co-branded corner. You inherit their traffic. For holiday seasons, this is critical — you avoid the high cost of temporary leases and build on someone else's seasonal draw. Bath & Body Works knows Ulta drives beauty and wellness traffic in October. By December, that traffic is looking for gift sets. Approach one non-competing retailer this week with a Q4 partnership proposal tied to a shared customer.
WatchWatch for Bath & Body Works to report holiday-quarter sales lift and attribute percentage to Ulta channels.

Returns to San Francisco with new store opening

Nordstrom Rack opened a new store location in San Francisco, marking a return to the market, per Retail Dive.

ReadingThe steal: when a major off-price retailer re-enters a market with permanent format, it is a signal that clearance velocity and customer acquisition cost are favorable in that geography. For physical product brands seeking wholesale placement, this is a green light to approach Nordstrom Rack buyers in regions where they are expanding. They are actively sourcing inventory. Approach with a line that moves quickly at 25-40% off retail. Off-price chains buy differently than department stores — they want turnover over margin, and they move volume fast. If you have excess inventory or a product with high return-buyer potential, this is the buyer to pitch this quarter.
WatchWatch for other off-price chains to announce San Francisco expansion in coming months.

First sponsor for in-app Bravo fan experience

Wendy's signed on as the first sponsor for an in-app Bravo fan experience, per Marketing Dive.

ReadingThe steal: exclusive in-app sponsorships cost far less than traditional media buys and sit inside the moment the customer is actually engaged (watching Bravo content). Wendy's gets brand recall without competing for attention against dozens of other ads. For consumer product brands, this lever works: find a show, app, or community where your customer already spends time (TikTok series, YouTube channel, gaming platform, fitness app), and offer to be the exclusive sponsor of that experience. You pay once, get embedded in the content loop, and benefit from the show's audience loyalty. The cost is typically lower than paid social, and the recall is higher because you are not interrupting — you are part of the experience.
WatchWatch for Bravo to open sponsorship spots for other food and beverage brands in the same in-app experience.

In-store retail media (IAB + Grocery TV survey finding)
The Shelby Report ↗

43 percent of marketers underutilize in-store retail media

IAB and Grocery TV research found that 43 percent of marketers say they underutilize in-store retail media despite seeing a full-funnel role for it, per The Shelby Report.

ReadingThe steal: if 43 percent of marketers are underutilizing in-store media, that means retailer inventory (available shelf space, digital screens, point-of-sale real estate) is available. Approach your retail partner this week and ask: what in-store media placements do you have available that are currently unfilled or underbought? Offer to fill them with a co-branded asset or a promotional display. In-store media is faster to deploy than paid digital and costs less per impression because you are paying for physical space, not CPM auctions. If your retail partner is not actively selling in-store media inventory, they are leaving margin on the table — and you can help fill it.
WatchWatch for retail platforms to launch self-service in-store media buying tools to close the deployment gap.

Advanced Manufacturing and Smart Life focus at October 2026 Canton Fair

Phase 1 of the 140th Canton Fair opened October 15, 2026, with Advanced Manufacturing and Smart Life as focal themes, per PRNewswire.

ReadingThe steal: track the themed focuses of major B2B trade shows (Canton Fair, Global Sources, Licensing Expo, Esports World Convention) to identify which product categories and technologies are in active buyer demand. If your product fits Advanced Manufacturing or Smart Life, contact three potential manufacturing or sourcing partners who exhibited at this fair. They are fresh from buyer conversations and can tell you exactly what importers are seeking. Use the theme as your conversation anchor: 'We saw Advanced Manufacturing was a focus at Canton Fair this year. We are looking for a manufacturing partner for [product]. What did you hear from importers about demand in this space?' You inherit their market intel and position yourself ahead of competitors who are still guessing.
WatchWatch for post-fair reports from exhibitors on which product categories attracted the most importer interest.
