Why Banks Are Losing the Room

The fee story and the rate story are well covered. The vendor estate banks and their suppliers gorged on in the eighties and nineties is still running, largely unexamined, and it is the part that will not survive scrutiny.

The vendor estate banks and suppliers built in the eighties and nineties is still running on original agreements: accountability that cannot be outsourced, regulators conceding banks cannot leave, oversight by questionnaire rather than custody record, and permissions over shareholder data written before the data existed.

A Model Reads What You Wrote Down. A Person Sees What You Did.

With every house now worried about what AI will do to its data, the honest answer is that the brand is the more exposed of the two — and neither risk arrived with the model. In military-heavy regions, the data risk runs higher still. Buy the AI. Govern the path. Keep the boots on the ground.

Data is at stake in a way that is measurable, priced and insurable. Brand is at stake in a way that is none of those things. A house that routes its risk capital through an entity its own state cannot examine will route its data the same way, and its artwork after that.

Brand Safety Used to Be a Phone Call. Now It Is a Search.

A reputation was once protected, and ruined, by a few people who knew each other. AI has changed every part of that: it floods the web with synthetic content, fakes the brand itself, and reads a company, its principals, its vendors and their circle, down to posts, chats and email from years ago, in seconds. Most brands are still using the old controls.

Brand safety no longer means where a logo appears. It means what a company, its principals and their circle have already published, and that includes its vendors, because AI systems often collapse a brand's public expression and its vendors' into the same result. A market will price that before anyone checks who wrote it.

Pulled spend from Meta, shifted budget to ShopMy creators ahead of IPO

Ruggable redirected advertising dollars away from Meta and into ShopMy creator partnerships, per Digiday, as part of a broader marketing-stack overhaul preceding a potential IPO.

ReadingThe steal: stop buying reach and start buying sellers. ShopMy creators have built shopping audiences; pay them commission, not CPM. Your cost moves from ads nobody asked for to commissions on orders already placed. Run a pilot with five ShopMy creators on a single SKU, track AOV and repeat rate vs. last year's Meta spend on the same product, then scale winners. The arbitrage is real—you pay only when the order ships.
MY STASH TAKEThis is the quiet death of spray-and-pray paid social for product brands. Ruggable is betting that a creator with ten thousand followers who actually shop is worth more than a million impressions from people scrolling. It's not ahead of—it's just math. The friction between 'reaching people' and 'selling product' has always been there; Ruggable is just stopping pretending they're the same thing. That's the move every brand with inventory and an IPO clock should be running this week.
WatchWatch for other rug, home, or lifestyle brands to announce similar creator-commission pivots in their earnings calls.

Music collaborations with Zara Larsson and Olivia Rodrigo drive resale differentiation

Depop placed music at the center of its marketing strategy through collaborations with artists including Zara Larsson and Olivia Rodrigo, per Modern Retail, to separate itself from competing resale platforms.

ReadingThe steal: use music drops as your scarcity engine. Partner with an artist or influencer in your category, create a limited collaboration collection, announce it only to your highest-engaged users first, then let fans of that artist discover it organically. The artist's fanbase is pre-warm to the product because they trust the artist's curation. You own the cultural moment without buying reach. The resale is secondary—the event is primary.
MY STASH TAKEDepop did what every resale and marketplace brand should do but doesn't: they stopped acting like a catalog and started acting like an event. Music is the Trojan horse because it has built-in audiences and cultural weight. You're not selling old stuff; you're hosting a drop. That distinction moves buyer psychology from 'secondhand' to 'exclusive.' Run this play if you're in resale, vintage, limited-edition, or any category where FOMO is already half your job.
WatchWatch for Depop to announce artist-exclusive collections with their own SKU numbers and higher margins than standard resale.

Added TikTok-favorite Mellow Sleep to home category to revamp sales

Target recently added buzzy TikTok brand Mellow Sleep and other creator-native brands to its home category to help revive flagging sales, per Modern Retail.

ReadingThe steal: if you're a small brand with strong TikTok following and limited distribution, create a one-page sell sheet with your top three TikTok videos embedded, your average order value, repeat-customer rate, and your most-requested SKU. Email it directly to category managers at three regional big-box chains. They are hunting for proven creators and brands to fill gaps. You come pre-validated. The shelf is the endgame—build proof on social first, then walk it into retail.
MY STASH TAKEBig-box retail is finally admitting it: they can't predict what sells anymore, so they're buying proof instead. Mellow Sleep didn't need Target to become real—TikTok already proved it. Target just needed the inventory and the shelf. This is a massive open door for any brand with a working social following and inventory to hold. You don't need a distributor anymore; you need a category manager's phone number and a deck.
WatchWatch for Target to announce a dedicated 'Creator Brands' subsection in home categories across all stores.

Expanded partnership to all Ulta stores for holiday season

Bath & Body Works expanded its partnership with Ulta Beauty to include all Ulta store locations for the holidays, per Retail Dive.

ReadingThe steal: if you make consumable, gift-able, or impulse personal care, identify one beauty retailer or lifestyle chain that touches your target customer but doesn't currently carry your product. Run a 30-day test in their top 10 stores with a single core SKU and one new seasonal flavor or scent unique to that channel. Track sell-through daily. If velocity exceeds your DTC or wholesale baseline by more than 15 percent, you've found a channel with lower CAC than your own marketing. Scale to all stores by the following holiday season.
MY STASH TAKEThis is the unspoken play in retail right now: borrowed traffic is cheaper than owned traffic. Bath & Body Works didn't build new stores; they rented shelf space in Ulta's customer flow. The holiday timing is smart—gift buyers are already there for makeup and fragrance; Bath & Body Works' products are the obvious fill. You don't need to be huge to do this. You need one product, one partner, and proof of sell-through.
WatchWatch for Bath & Body Works to announce exclusive holiday scents available only in Ulta locations to drive traffic.

Social-commerce revenue outpaced SEO-based commerce for first time

The Independent's social-commerce revenue displaced its SEO-based commerce revenue for the first time in September, per Digiday CEO Christian Broughton.

ReadingThe steal: if you're a brand working with publishers or content sites for affiliate or referral revenue, shift your negotiation focus from 'how many link placements' to 'how much shoppable social content can you commit to creating monthly.' A single Instagram Reel with a product link in bio outconverts ten SEO keyword placements buried in a 2,000-word article. Offer content creators a higher commission on social-driven orders than SEO-driven orders. You're buying proof of channel shift.
MY STASH TAKEThe Independent is telling you something important: attention has moved, and money follows attention. Social isn't supporting e-commerce anymore—it's replacing it. If you're still budgeting for SEO affiliate as your primary content partnership, you're behind. The math has changed. Publishers know it; smart brands are already moving budget to creators who can make shoppable social content that converts.
WatchWatch for other publishers to publicly disclose their social-commerce revenue outpacing SEO-driven revenue in quarterly reports.

Q3 2026 luxury flagships prioritized personalized service and physical space

Canadian luxury retailers and international brands invested significantly in flagship stores, property, and personalized service during Q3 2026, per a Retail Insider report analyzing the sector.

ReadingThe steal: if you're a mid-market or premium brand with wholesale distribution, test a small flagship or experience space in one high-traffic luxury district or mall. Staff it with your highest-performing team. Focus the space on personalization, not volume: custom orders, private shopping, styling services, and house-imprinted objects unavailable online. Measure success by repeat-customer rate and average transaction value, not foot traffic. The flagship is a retention tool, not a storefront.
MY STASH TAKELuxury is doubling down on friction and service. Everyone can buy online; not everyone gets coffee with the founder or a custom order in three weeks. The flagships aren't fight for survival—they're becoming the premium version of the brand itself. If you're selling anything positioned as aspirational, craft, or exclusive, you're watching the playbook right here.
WatchWatch for luxury brands to announce experience-based services (styling, customization, private viewings) as quarterly revenue line items.

Returns to San Francisco after prior closure

Nordstrom Rack announced a store opening in San Francisco, marking a return to a market where the off-price format had previously exited, per Retail Dive.

ReadingThe steal: if you sell through off-price wholesale (TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Nordstrom Rack, Ross), track which regions and formats are expanding vs. contracting. Expansion signals demand for your category and floor space urgency. Pitch your seasonal overstock to expanding regions first—inventory velocity will be higher, and you'll move aged stock faster than sending it to flat or shrinking markets.
MY STASH TAKEThis is small, but it's a signal. Rack doesn't build stores on nostalgia. If they're opening in San Francisco again after a closure, someone ran the numbers and found a reason. Could be inventory supply, could be real estate changes, could be foot traffic. Either way, it's a flag that off-price is moving again in a market it had abandoned. Worth watching.
